Chapter 4：Some Say He Swings the Other Way

The moment her brother mentioned that he was about to head to the Bai Residence, Ji Xiaonian immediately stopped crying and rushed upstairs to change her clothes.

She tied her hair in a casual ponytail and put on a dress. However, she was worried that she was not attractive enough to gain Bai Yan's attention. As a result, she tugged at Ji Chen's sleeves and asked, "Brother, do I look good?"

Ji Chen shot a glance at her. Even if he ignored how short she was, she was small in general. Due to this, she would always appear to be tiny, no matter what she wore. Even though she was already an adult, she still looked like a middle school student.

He sighed. 'After father and mother's early death, was I too immersed in my work to take care of her? How could I have raised father and mother's precious jewel into such a tiny munchkin?'

'What a grave sin!'

"It's fine, I guess." Ji Chen gave a vague answer.

He was well aware that the young lady before him was not to be complimented. After all, it only took one or two praises for her to be on cloud nine.

"Okay, I get it, you never cared much for me anyway."

Upon hearing Ji Chen's vague reply, Ji Xiaonian's mood soured. She strode forward, but after taking a few steps, she stopped and looked back at Ji Chen.

"However, let me tell you this. Even if you don't care about me, I'm still your sister! Your very own flesh and blood, biological sister! Should you dare to abandon me completely, our parents would never forgive you! Hmph!"

With that, Ji Xiaonian then turned back around and continued walking forward.

The Bai Residence was only a thousand or so feet from the Ji Residence. Whenever she stood on her villa's balcony during the day, she would be able to make out the latter's home clearly. As such, Ji Xiaonian was able to navigate the way to the Bai Residence even with her eyes closed.

As she stood before the Bai Residence's front gates, Ji Xiaonian extended her hand forward and rang the doorbell. At that moment, the precious munchkin was feeling extremely nervous!

'Who knows whether Bai Yan's temper had subsided? What if he's still ignoring me?'

Regardless, she had come to his house for one goal, and that was to make her presence known. After all, she would be extremely distraught should he have feelings for her brother!

A moment later, the gates to the villa swung open. Upon realizing that it was the Ji siblings who rang the doorbell, the Bai Family's housemaid hurriedly greeted them with a smile, "Oh, it's Young Master Ji and his sister! Please come in."

Ji Xiaonian let her brother walk before her, while she shyly tailed behind. She was still flustered over the events with Brother Yan after all!

The housemaid led the siblings into the living room where Bai Qilin and his wife sat.

Upon noticing Ji Chen and Ji Xiaonian, the two greeted the siblings with cordial smiles, and Qilin's wife commented, "Oh, it's Ji Chen and Xiaonian! Hurry up and come over, Xiaonian! It's been a week since I last saw you, and your Aunty misses you very much!"

Whether or not it was due to them sharing the same surnames, Ji Yun was extremely fond of the Ji siblings.

This was especially true for Ji Xiaonian.

Ji Yun had been extremely close to Ji Xiaonian's mother, and before she died, Ji Xiaonian's mom had entrusted Ji Xiaonian to Ji Yun. As such, whenever Ji Xiaonian visited them, Ji Yun would treat Ji Xiaonian as if she was her own daughter and doted on her lovingly.

Ji Yun's silent and boring son was also partially to blame. Without Ji Xiaonian at their home, the Ji household was so dull that it was practically dead.

As a result, whenever she had the time, Ji Yun would invite Ji Xiaonian over to pass the time.

"Evening, Uncle, Aunty."

Ji Xiaonian walked forward and greeted the Ji elders sweetly. Whenever she saw them, she would remember her own parents, and at times, she wished to call them father and mother.

Alas… the time was still not ripe to do so.

"Alright, alright, come and sit beside Aunty." Ji Yun smiled and extended her hand to pull Ji Xiaonian.

Ji Xiaonian gave a faint smile as she sat down. Following that, Ji Chen walked forward as well, and while doing so, presented the tonics he bought while on his business trip. "Uncle, Aunty, these are some high-quality tonics that I bought during my business trip. Since there's only me and Xiaonian back home, I thought that it was better to give it to you. I do hope that you can accept my humble gift."

Bai Qilin quickly walked forward and patted Ji Chen's shoulder with a smile. "Silly child, you always bring us gifts from your business trips. You really do know how to put us in a difficult position."

Ji Chen chuckled. "Aren't we just one big family? There's no need to be this polite, Uncle and Aunty. Oh yeah, Yan's upstairs, right? I need to talk to him."

"Yeah, he is. I think he's in the study."

Bai Qilin pointed upstairs as he spoke. He admired Ji Chen a lot. Since his parents died early, he was forced to take care of the company and his sister all by himself. Although Bai Yan had given Ji Chen a fair share of assistance, the fact that Ji Chen was able to reach his current position was still deserving of praise.

Ji Chen gave a small bow and then headed upstairs.

Ji Xiaonian had originally planned to follow along, but after remembering how long it had been since she spent time with Uncle and Aunty, she decided to stay behind as she missed them as well. She wrapped herself in Ji Yun's embrace and began to act like a spoiled child.

"Aunty, uni's no fun at all. I only get to return once a week! I really miss you guys."

As Ji Yun held the child in her arms, she gave a kind smile and answered, "Indeed, you only return once a week, and without you here, Aunty's extremely bored. However, if you think about it, you learn a lot when you attend university, right?"

Although Ji Yun could put it this way, Ji Xiaonian had no idea how she would have survived the next four years of university had Bai Yan not taken a job as a lecturer!

"Xiaonian, you're nineteen this year, right?"

Bai Qilin suddenly asked.

Bai Xiaonian moved away from Ji Yun's embrace and faced Bai Qilin. She nodded in a puzzled manner and answered, "Yep, I'm already nineteen. Why'd you ask, Uncle?"

"Hahaha! In a blink of an eye, Xiaonian has already grown to a full-fledged lady. You've never been in a relationship, right?"

'In a relationship?'

Upon hearing those words, Ji Xiaonian's face flushed red and she hurriedly lowered her head shyly. She then hastily rejected the notion and answered, "Never, who would fall for me anyway?!"

"What makes you say that?"

Ji Yun tugged at Ji Xiaonian's hand. While she combed through Ji Xiaonian's hair, Ji Yun continued in a kind tone, "Our Xiaonian is a good girl who is responsible and pretty. I bet there are plenty of boys who like you. Sigh, if only I had a daughter-in-law like you, my life would be perfect," she spoke with a regretful look on her face.

Ji Xiaonian stared at Ji Yun in a dazed manner. Her heart skipped a beat, and soon after, it began to thump rapidly.

'She wants me to be her daughter-in-law?'

'Is this real? Does Aunty really want me as her daughter-in-law?'

An irresistible look of joy hung on Ji Xiaonian's face as she excitedly asked Ji Yun, "Aunty, are you really speaking the truth? Do you really want…"

"Of course I'm speaking the truth. My dear Xiaonian, I'm sure you understand our family's Lil Bai quite well. Ever since he was young, he's avoided any close contact with girls, and has, even now, never properly interacted with anyone aside from you siblings."

Lil Bai was Bai Yan's pet name, and it was the name that Bai Yan was referred to by his parents whenever they were at home.

Ji Yun continued, "I don't use the internet much, so I don't really follow up on online gossip. However, back when Uncle searched the web, he found a piece about Lil Bai liking males. They say he's a homosexual, and it greatly enraged your Uncle when he read about it."

"Sure, you might be quite a few years younger than Bai Yan, but Xiaonian, if you truly wish to be together with Lil Bai, we 100% support your decision."

Bai Qilin nodded at those words. "Exactly. Xiaonian, you're an adult now. If you truly like our Lil Bai, then by all means, please get together with him. It is our earnest wish that you marry Lil Bai."

Aunty here refers to Madam Bai
