From her husband, Li Qin Yao had heard how Wei Jun Hao had tried to pursue her sister-in-law for years. As she was reminded of how Zhang Yu Han had waited ten years to meet her again, Li Qin Yao took pity on Wei Jun Hao and agreed to lend a hand.
Anyway, although she was not able to join Wei Jun Hao and pair with him in his match with Zhang Yu Han, Li Qin Yao knew that she could at least do something else.
All she needed to do was to mess with her husband's concentration, right? That should be easy.
In the end, Wei Jun Hao finally left the cafe after Li Qin Yao gave her word to help him.
These days, Li Qin Yao began to get more sleepy due to her pregnancy. After thinking about this matter for a while, Li Qin Yao decided to return to her mother's place to take a nap.
Because her workplace was much closer to her mother's house, Li Qin Yao would occasionally return to visit her mother and took her rest there. Li Qin Yao still had her keys to her mother's place and would be free to come and go even when her mother was not home.
When Li Qin Yao stepped into the house, she was surprised upon seeing that her mother was at home.
"Ma, you're back?" Li Qin Yao blinked when she saw her mother sitting on the sofa, watching television. "When did you arrive? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I came back an hour ago," Xu Yilan said. "I planned to tell you about it once I had enough rest. But then, the drama was getting intense and I forgot,"
Li Qin Yao felt the corner of her mouth started to twitch. She turned her head to the television and saw that her mother was watching a palace drama with harem intrigue. She then walked in and sat beside her mother.
"You're here to take a quick break?"
"Un," Li Qin Yao nodded. "I got back from the cafe and was feeling a bit tired after looking at all the accounts and reports."
"Have you had your lunch yet?"
Yesterday, Auntie Su had taken a two weeks vacation to prepare for the New Year celebration. Some of her child who was staying in another city had come back to Y City to celebrate New Year together. At the thought that they were going to spend time with their family anyway, Zhang Yu Han had agreed to let Auntie Su take an early vacation.
"I haven't," Li Qin Yao said. Earlier she did not have any appetite to eat anything at her cafe.
"Let me cook something for us after this episode end," Xu Yilan said. "What do you want to eat?"
Hearing that her mother had volunteered to cook, Li Qin Yao latched at her mother's arm and leaned her head on her shoulder. "Ma, you're the best! I haven't eaten your dishes for a long time. Can you make me your signature fried chicken?"
Xu Yilan scoffed as she watched how her daughter was behaving. "How old are you? Why are you still acting like a child?"
Li Qin Yao stuck out her tongue and continued to act coquettishly with her mother.
After a while, the drama ended and Xu Yilan quickly walked into the kitchen to prepare lunch. Fortunately, she had stopped by the market to grab some groceries before she came back home. Therefore, the ingredients she had were all fresh.
Li Qin Yao then entered the kitchen to help her mother to prepare lunch but was soon sent out when Xu Yilan found that she had cut the vegetables too small to her liking. Anyway, Xu Yilan thought that the kitchen was too small and it was troublesome whenever they bumped into each other.
In the end, Li Qin Yao returned to the living room with a cup of yogurt and she sat on the sofa while watching some entertainment news.
Almost ten minutes later, Li Qin Yao opened her eyes when her mother patted at her legs lightly to wake her up.
"How did you fell asleep here?" Xu Yilan asked with worry.
Li Qin Yao rubbed at her eyes and stared back at her mother. "I did not even realize when did I fell asleep." She stretched up her body and yawned. "Mom, you finished already?"
"Hmm," Xu Yilan said. "The food is ready. Go and wash your hand first."
"Oh," Li Qin Yao nodded. As soon as she stood up, Li Qin Yao felt the urge to pee and quickly made a run to the bathroom. When she walked out, her mother was sitting at the dining table, waiting for her.
Soon, the mother and daughter sat down and enjoyed their lunch together and chatted. It has been a while that Li Qin Yao had eaten her mother's cooking and therefore, she ate more than usual.
However, because she was eating happily, tasting her mother's craft, Li Qin Yao failed to notice the strange look on her mother's face.
The chopstick in Xu Yilan's hand stopped as she watched her daughter took another piece of stir-fry eggplant that she previously would avoid.
"Ma, why are you not eating?"
Xu Yilan snapped out of her thought and dismissed her thought when she watched her daughter took another portion of her favorite fried chicken.
"When did your in-laws will return to Y City?" Xu Yilan asked as she picked the bowl of soup.
"Zhang Yu Han said their flight should arrive in this weekend."
Xu Yilan nodded. "Send my regards to them. Later, when I'm free, I will come over and visit them." A sigh escaped her at the thought that her daughter will not be welcoming New Year with her this time.
After Xu Yilan was divorced with Li Qin Yao's father, the Li family would occasionally send her daughter to her side to accompany her. However, her daughter was now a married woman, and naturally, she would have to follow her husband.
Once they finished their lunch, Li Qin Yao helped her mother to clean up the table before she went back to the living room with a packet of ginger cookies that she got from her purse.
Xu Yilan walked into the living room and saw that her daughter was nibbling at the cookies. The suspicion she had earlier resurfaced and she sat down next to her daughter.
"Yao Yao," Xu Yilan stared at her daughter.
"Hmm?" she looked up and saw the strange look on her mother's expression. "Ma, what's wrong?"
Xu Yilan glanced at the packet of ginger cookies in her daughter's hand. "Are you... pregnant?"
The hand that was holding that piece of cookies suddenly halted and Li Qin Yao stared back at her mother with her eyes wide.
How... did her mother found out?
