Chapter 334 - I am Going to be a Grandmother?

Li Qin Yao shifted her eyes away from her mother and faked a laugh. "Ma, what are you talking about?"

Initially, after observing her daughter for a while, Xu Yilan had this suspicion that perhaps, her daughter was pregnant and she had not taken the test and knew anything about it.

But now that she had seen how her daughter reacted, Xu Yilan knew that her daughter was pregnant and had not told her the news yet.

"It was just a wild guess on my part, but looking at how you reacted…" Xu Yilan paused and crossed her arms on her ċhėst. "Yao Yao, you don't plan to tell your mother about this good news?"

Li Qin Yao suddenly felt guilty after looking at her mother's expression. "Ma…" she bit her lips hesitantly and decided to tell her the truth. "It wasn't that I did not want to share this news with you. Just that, Yu Han and I had decided to announce the news after I passed the first trimester."

Xu Yilan's eyes widened upon hearing her daughter's confession. She sat next to her daughter and her gaze glued at her daughter's flat stomach for a few seconds before she looked up again. Suddenly did not know what to think. "I—I am going to be a grandmother?"

Li Qin Yao gave her mother a shy smile and nodded. "Ma, how did you guess?"

"Isn't it because you're a glutton?" Xu Yilan let out a chuckle and pinched at her daughter's cheek. "Previously, I thought it was strange that you were eating a lot of the stir-fried eggplant when you would avoid that the most. But then, I began to notice your appetite and the food you choose to eat. And then," she glanced at the packet of the ginger cookies. "The last time I was pregnant with you, this is what I usually snack on."

Li Qin Yao glanced at the packet of cookies that gave her away. 

"Moreover, the two of you have been married for months. It wouldn't be so weird if the two of you start to have a child now," Xu Yilan said. She then patted at her daughter's hair. "How is it? Have you seen the doctor? What did the doctor say? How long is the child?"

Hearing her mother's questions, Li Qin Yao was suddenly speechless. She could see in her mother's eyes that she was excited about this news of pregnancy. "Un, we've seen a doctor a few weeks ago, and she said that the baby is growing healthily. Next week will be the last week for my last trimester."

Xu Yilan had a smile on her face as she listened to her daughter's words. It was then that she noticed the small bump on her daughter's stomach. A thought crossed her mind, and Xu Yilan's expression changed. "What about your morning sickness? Is it bad? I will prepare something to help you ease your morning sickness."

Li Qin Yao tugged at her mother's arms before she could stand up and leave. "You don't need to worry about this. My morning sickness was not so bad." A giggle escaped her when she thought of her husband. "Actually, Ma, have you heard about Couvade Syndrome?"

"What syndrome?"

"Hmm…" Li Qin Yao tried to recall what Auntie Su had told them the other day. "I think it was also called a sympathetic pregnancy."

Xu Yilan's eyes widened at hearing these familiar words.

"So right now, it was your son-in-law who was going through morning sickness instead of me." 

"Ahh???" For a while, Xu Yilan was at a loss of words. "You mean… Yu Han?" 

Although she had heard of these words before, this was the first time that Xu Yilan knew someone who was going through this strange syndrome. At the thought that it was his son-in-law who was going through morning sickness, Xu Yilan suddenly grew anxious.

"Then, how is my son-in-law? Is he alright?" 

Li Qin Yao patted at her mother's arms. "Don't worry. Other than throwing up occasionally and some mood swings, your son-in-law is fine."

However, at this time, it did not seem as if Xu Yilan was listening. "Yao Yao, you go and call Yu Han to come here."

"Ah?" Li Qin Yao looked at her mother in a daze. "Why?"

"Of course it's because I'm worried," Xu Yilan said. "Wait. Will he be able to drive over here? Should I come with you to Y City and visit him instead?"

Zhang Yu Han was in the middle of a discussion with his grandfather when the phone in his pocket started to buzz. He took it out, glanced at the caller ID, and paused when he saw that it was his wife.

"What's wrong?" Zhang Jing asked when he saw the change in his grandson's expression.

"It's Qin Yao," Zhang Yu Han answered.

Hearing that it was his granddaughter-in-law, Zhang Jing leaned back on his seat and waved his hand. "Go and answer the phone call. It might be important."

Zhang Yu Han gave a quick nod to her grandfather and went out to answer the phone call. He slid his finger on the screen and pressed the phone to his ear. "Hello?"

"Zhang Yu Han, am I disturbing you?"

"No, you're not," he then walked over to a quiet corner and leaned his body on the wall. Instantly, his gaze softened. "What's wrong? Didn't you tell me earlier that you were going to mom's place? Are you resting well?"

"Hmm… mom was at home when I came in. She arrived home this morning. Then, we had lunch together," Li Qin Yao said. Then she hesitated. "Hubby, are you busy?"

A chuckle escaped him when she asked the question again.

"Mom wanted you to come home and have dinner together," Li Qin Yao said before Zhang Yu Han could say anything. "My mom… she found out that we were expecting and therefore she wanted you to come over and have a meal together."

Zhang Yu Han felt his body stiffened at her words. His mother-in-law found out that her daughter was pregnant and now, she was inviting him to have dinner at her place? Why does this situation sound frightening?

Various thoughts came to his mind and everything he imagined was gory scenes. 

Now that he had got her daughter pregnant, could it be that his mother-in-law was planning to castrate him?

A shiver ran through his body. Zhang Yu Han then took a deep breath and answered, "Alright. I will be there on time."
