Valerie chuckled out loud when she heard the simple words that Maxene had used to taint Lina's image in the eyes of her colleagues.
"That is all you did?" She questioned in excitement as she wished to hear more about it.
Maxene was beaming with pride when she heard the awe and appreciation in her voice.
"Sometimes the tallest towers are brought low by a simple shake of the earth." She replied with wisdom oozing from her words.
However, the person on the receiving end of this wisdom was none other than Valerie Zheng.
"What tower?" She questioned in confusion at what this lady had said out of nowhere.
Maxene rolled her eyes and pressed her forehead as she explained what her earlier words meant.
"Sometimes elaborate schemes are not needed. A simple spark can ignite a large flame." She smirked while moving towards the desk.
She took a seat on the not so comfortable chair and sneered when she recalled the rumors she had heard of Lina having the best seat in the entire department.
'She deserves the best things because she is related to the VP?' She sneered at the woman she had brought low with just a few words from her mouth.
"I don't care what you did as long as it doesn't lead the trail back to me." Valerie's menacing words brought her back to the present.
Maxene shook her head immediately and scoffed at herself when she realized that they were on the phone and could not see each other.
"There is no need to worry about that, Miss Zheng. I made sure to keep my involvement to the minimum." She responded to ease her worries.
Maxene had gone to two departments and 'accidentally' spilled her troubles before the women she knew had the biggest mouths in the company.
True to her assumptions, those women did her bidding without their knowledge.
Soon the news spread like wildfire and Maxene sat on the sidelines and watched Lina's opinion in their eyes burn to ashes.
Not only did those women talk about her inconsistent work ethics they even added their own dissatisfactions with her in the mix.
As the word spread through the grapevine, new and exciting aspects about the partial and unfair treatment that the management gave Lina kept adding as it moved further.
"This way the finger can never be pointed at me and you." She reassured the prestigious daughter of the Zheng family.
"Good, or you can kiss that job goodbye." Valerie's sneer made her flinch.
Maxene had done everything according to what she was told to do and all of this was for one reason and that reason was a job working under Talia, her idol.
She had already made up her mind to toss this useless place called Obsidia into the backburner once she was done with the time mentioned in her contract.
As though God had reserved better things in her share, she was offered this job once she fulfilled their tasks.
'I can quit this job at any time now!' She rejoiced and grinned until her cheeks hurt.
"I will trust in Miss Zheng's words and wait for her next orders. All I need in return is to work alongside my idol." She blushed while imagining that scenario.
Valerie, who was already aware of Maxene's obsession with her sister Talia, rolled her eyes and gave a positive hum in response.
"Okay." An uninterested word was uttered before the call was hung up.
Maxene stared at the screen which displayed the number of minutes she had spoken to Valerie and a sudden disappointment filled her heart.
"We spoke for 26 minutes and not once did she let her sister speak to me." She mumbled in discontentment at this sad turn of events.
Nevertheless, she coaxed her gloomy heart with the prospect of meeting her idol in person in the near future.
Getting up from the chair, she decided to take another look at the gossip which was still propagating at full swing before she got back to her work.

After hanging up on the call she had been on for almost half an hour now, Valerie groaned as she plopped on the bed.
"Jie, why should I have to deal with your crazy fans every time?" She whined after which she buried her face in the pillow and let out a muffled scream.
Talia Zheng, her eldest sister shook her head and chuckled as she watched these childish tantrums from this young lady.
She had been seated next to Valerie for the entire duration of the phone call but had not bothered to make her presence be known to that other woman.
"Jie will give you a nice gift for this great sacrifice that little Valerie has made." She spoke in a patronizing tone while patting Valerie's head.
Instantly, the annoyance in Valerie's heart faded and she gleamed at her elder sister who treated her the best among everyone in the house.
"Will you help me look good before Mrs. Huo's eyes?" She requested while batting her lashes.
Talia rolled her eyes at this girl whose brain was only filled with matters concerning her crush, Louis Huo.
"Hmm… Mrs. Huo will be attending today's tea party as well. I will make sure that she falls in love with you instantly and wants to make you hehr daughter-in-law." She promised and then chuckled.
The blush on Valerie's face indicated just how much she liked the idea of becoming the daughter-in-law of Mrs. Huo.
However, before Valerie could delve into the realm of love she held for Louis, she was rudely yanked out of it when she heard her sister's words.
"But only if you help me become Mrs. Ming." Talia raised her brows and waited for an answer.
"With what we have planned for today's event? There is no doubt that Aunt Renee will ever choose that Lina over you." She answered with confidence evident in her every word.
The eerie smiles that soon emerged on their faces when they thought of the tea party they had organized today could make anyone who witnessed it to shiver in fear.
'Let us see how Lina can show her face in high society after this.' Talia snickered and rose from the bed.
"Get dressed. We need to arrive early to greet our guests." She ordered and then strode out of Valerie's room.
