Benji and Lina were having a hard time trying to control their anger at his casual words.
The reports that Stuart had assigned her required intensive research and she could not slack off since that man would hound her if he found any errors in her work.
'We did our best and this man tries to make it sound like that was a child's play?' Lina narrowed her eyes at her brother who was undermining her efforts
Stuart frowned when he heard this and immediately shook his head to refute this.
"They would have taken me an entire week to complete but she did it in 3 days. That speaks volumes about her efficiency." He defended Lina's hard work.
Wade's subtle smirk fell upon Lina's eyes and she stared at him with her jaw dropped.
'So he did that to prove a point?' She realized and pouted that this was not what she was told earlier.
Maxene gritted her teeth as the arrival of this man had only swayed the public's opinion further into Lina's favor.
She had to ensure that Lina's name did not get cleared as that would mean her task would not be accomplished.
"This proves that Lina Yang has proper work ethics which confirms that she completes her tasks on or before time." He declared with a clear and loud voice.
'Good job, bro!' Lina cheered for her brother who had stood up for her.
People surrounding them nodded upon hearing his words as this implied that the mark of 'slacker' was wiped away from her mantle.
"This still does not explain why she gets to take so much time off work when we all have to stay in the office from 9 to 5 every day!" Maxene expressed her dissatisfaction.
Now that the people knew that Maxene was a cause of this rumor being spread throughout the company, they did not wish to accept her words as the truth.
Wade scoffed when he heard her rebuttal and he was ready to prove that she was wrong.
"Lina Yang was appointed as a consultant. Though she has a full-time position in Obsidia, she does not have to stay here the entire time." He announced a secret that had been kept until now.
Just as he had said, Lina had created a contract for herself which gave her the freedom to come and go as she pleased.
The sole requirement was that she had to complete all her tasks before she could leave the office premises and that she could be summoned at any time that the management required her.
Benji was swift in his actions as he pulled out the contract from his briefcase and handed it over to Stuart Bai.
Why Stuart Bai? Since he was the only person who was unaware of the Save Fairy plan, he could be the unbiased judge in this matter.
Stuart accepted the contract and read out the same requirement that Wade had divulged earlier.
Everyone was shell shocked when they heard the stellar terms present in her contract.
Everything was in her favor and there was hardly a single clause that could be used against her.
Finding another opportunity to turn things around, Maxene raised her chin and stared down at Lina.
"What right does she have to get such a brilliant golden contract? Don't you think that this is blatant favoritism?" She sneered as she continued looking down at Lina.
The woman who was receiving these nasty glares could not help but sigh at her resilience.
'Even after everything is against her she still wants to keep going? Why?' Lina tried to decipher the reason for her adamant actions.
Stuart was finally done with this nonsense and he focused her leering eyes at the woman whom he had once deemed as an asset to the company.
"With her qualifications and her work ethics, I do not think it would be an exaggeration to say that even the Emperor would try to take her into his company." He educated the other woman's ignorance.
When the name 'Emperor' was mentioned, awe-filled gasps were heard around the room.
Lina blushed when she heard the high praise and also the comment that her boyfriend would 'try to take her'.
'Ruby's very name is so powerful? Looks like I caught onto a thick and sturdy thigh!' She covered her mouth to stop her giggle.
Stephen had been holding her arm ever since he had interrupted her from charging towards Maxene so he was the first to hear her muffled giggle.
'Is she thinking about that man!?' He pursed his lips as this thought did not sit well with him.
"Emperor Ming would poach her if he knew that we had such a genius here and you try to defame her? What will you do if she leaves the company?" Stuart's angry growl brought everyone back to their senses.
Maxene was stunned by how a hypothetical situation was being used against her right now.
'I ask for a mere assistant and was refused while she gets a stellar contract and all the perks without half the effort?' She refused to believe that she was any worse than Lina.
Noticing the look of defiance and unacceptance on her face, the people felt irked while some sighed upon encountering her sad state.
'She is backed into a corner yet she is not repentant?' Lina wondered in bafflement at this odd behavior.
Any other person would try to kiss their boss' ass to try and keep their job but Maxene had not done anything of that sort.
'It is as though she had come prepared to lose her job…' She speculated as her eyes narrowed.
"Enough with this. If the real culprit…" Stephen began with a huff and glanced at Maxene when he mentioned 'culprit'.
"Does not come forward then they leave me with no choice." He shrugged his shoulders, washing his hands off what would happen next.
He then glanced at Benji who was already prepared to press the button on his phone.
'Finally!' The big man exclaimed as he was happy to end this charade.
The next second, numerous phones in the office dinged as a notification popped up.
Everyone shifted their attention to their phones and what they saw made them stare at the screen unblinkingly.
The moment the video that had arrived at everyone's phone was viewed until the very end, they all looked up and turned in one direction.
The person at the center of attention stared at her hands that gripped the phone tight as they trembled ever so slightly.
'How did they get this?' She gnashed her teeth while her head remained lowered.
