Chapter 273 - The Luckiest Woman Alive

Then the smile on her face faded as a mild frown appeared in its place.

"If only…" She muttered to herself and then shook her head violently as though she was mad at herself for thinking of something.

"What is it, Mandy child?" An elderly lady inquired with her brows furrowed.

She had noticed the reluctance on Mandy's face which proved that there was something that she was hiding.

The women began urging her to speak her thoughts and now it was Jeanette's turn to feel jealous about the attention that Mandy had gained with a simple sentence.

Mandy was biding her time as she pretended that she was too scared to utter anything about the matter that she wished to hide from them.

Moira Huo had been watching this show for too long and now she had had enough of this nonsense that the bastard child of the Yang family was spewing about Lina.

'Patrick should educate her better or keep her locked inside so that she doesn't affect others in this way!" She scoffed at that man who had caused the entire family to be ashamed.

"I can assure you that Miss Lina is not like how you two are portraying her to be." She spoke up as she took her steps closer to their table.

This was the first time throughout the course of their conversation that someone had taken Lina's defense.

The fact that it was Mrs. Huo who had spoken up made the women to not openly mock her for believing that the new heiress of the Yang family had good qualities in her as well.

Moira ignored their stunned expressions and stood before Jeanette and Mandy.

"I may not know what it is that you two have against Miss Lina… But I do know that the amount of false words I've heard today is truly baffling." She uttered with a frown on her face.

This sudden turn of events made the four women who had orchestrated this plan to be stunned as well.

"Mrs. Huo, how can you say that our Jeanette is lying? Can you not see the injury?" The oldest woman present stood up for Jeanette.

Moira did not wish to be disrespectful towards this elderly lady but there were things that needed to be said.

"Jeanette, the injury…" She glanced at the thick and heavy cast that was around the young lady's leg.

The scrutinizing gaze made Jeanette panic and she tried to move the leg away from the eyes that were staring at her leg.

Moira looked up at the young lady whom she believed to be an angel yet today, it seemed as though she had to take another proper look before continuing to treat her as she did earlier.

"My son has known Miss Lina for years now and the fact that he has remained to be on friendly terms with her speaks volumes about her character." She revealed the secret that only their family members were aware of.

This information made them recall the scene at the ball where Louis Huo and Lina Yang had been standing together, conversing as good friends would.

This memory made them believe the authenticity of Moira's words yet they had doubts in their minds.

Louis was known to always stay elusive as information about him being close to women was lower and rarely found.

One might hear occasional gossip about Emperor Ming about his dating life but not once had anyone heard anything about Louis in the tabloids.

This heir of the Huo family had left the country for a long time and also had moved to another city to start his business there.

Hence they did not know much about him other than the fact that he was also an eligible bachelor, one with no dark stains on his name.

The women who remembered these matters were now distressed about a whole new aspect.

"Mrs. Huo, Master Louis might get too close to that vicious woman." One spoke in a distressed tone.

Hearing this, everyone slowly chimed in about what they believed was 'advice' for the poor mother who was unaware of the dangers that were circling her son's future.

"What if she becomes your daughter-in-law? Would you wish to have such a disrespectful woman in your family?" Another interrogated while scoffing.

Moira was puzzled to see how these women had turned the defense that she had taken for Lina against her but she knew that she could not give up so easily.

'If father-in-law knows that I did not lift a finger when Miss Lina was being defamed then he might throw me out!' She fretted as the only person that scared her was the old Patriarch of the Huo family.

The old man had sent his only grandson away to a far off country so that he might look after Lina from the shadows while she was there.

So if he knew that Lina was being targeted when she was back in her homeland then the storms that might hit the city were something that she did not wish to see.

"If Miss Lina can become my daughter-in-law then I will be the luckiest woman alive." She declared as she stared right into that old woman's eyes to show that she was serious about what she had said.

These words came as a shock to many and the one who was most affected by this confident and haughty declaration was, of course, Valerie Zheng.

With red-rimmed eyes, she stared at the woman who had so easily announced that she would accept Lina even after everything that they had done to ruin Lina's name.

'What is so good about her that you like her even when everyone hates her?' She gritted her teeth as she stared at the woman with tears welling up in her eyes.

Talia held her sister's hand tight to make sure that she did not take any drastic steps in her frustration that might affect their plans.
