267 CHAPTER 267: THE RESCUE

''Ethan... are you okay?'' Alex shook his arms cause he went in trance for a few minutes.

'' Ehm... I'm sorry. I must have been tired since it was a long drive. I'll just change my shirt real quick.''

'' Oh, okay.'' The woman beamed. '' Uhm, do you want to eat or drink something?'' She inquired.

'' Anything will do.'' He casually uttered as he walks towards his room.

''Lunch?'' She further.

'' Yeah, sure.'' He smiled before closing the door to his room.

The woman can definitely see his tiredness and she was worried about him. What can she do to alleviate his mood? Guess she'll try serving a delicious meal then. She smiled.

Meanwhile, Ethan lazily laid his body on his king-size bed. He's not sure as to why he was so tired well in fact he didn't do anything special today. Or is it what Clement told him about how he found the woman? His mind was totally in distress while he was driving back to the City a while ago.

''Please...'' he begged Clement. '' I want to know how she survived the raging sea that day.'' Sincerity could be heard from his tone.

Clement heaved a heavy sigh. Even if he hates the man in front of him, he is not that heartless though. So he motioned the man to seat on the couch while he went to the door and flip the signage ''Doctor is out.''

'' I was in a small wooden boat with two of my patients. They were kinda old but still strong to come and fetch me so I could treat their sick grandson.'' He started. '' It was one of the province that civilization wasn't able to reach. In order to reach that Island, one must travel for an hour using a wooden boat. But before we even reach Patar Island, we saw an unconscious bloody woman. Looks like the waves had washed her ashore. We all thought that she's dead but I was able to feel a very weak pulse so we brought her with us.''

Ethan was listening intently as the guy progresses on his story.

'' I had a hard time reviving her. Her body went in shock probably due to an overwheming emotion or stress perhaps, before she was shot. Good thing she was only shot on her left shoulder and that the bullet seemingly came out from her back so it didn't travel through her belly. Or else, she and the child should have died instantly.''

Ethan could feel his heart being shred in pieces as he continually listen to the story.

She was unconscious for a week and I couldn't tell how she and the child was doing that time since I do not have my equipments that day. And my only sign was her heartbeat. THEIR heartbeat to be exact. I could say the child in her womb is strong since despites her mother's gunshot wound and the hour she spent floating in the sea, the baby was able to survive. I could say it was God's grace that kept them both alive.

On the seventh day, she regain consciousness but she was too weak to speak. I continued monitoring her till then. But to be honest, it was quite hard since a month had passed before we totally heard her voice. Seems like she was in a total shock due to whatever happen to her back then. And she can't remember who she is!

Also, I don't know if she already had hydrophobia or aquaphobia that time, but she couldn't bear looking nor going near the shore; Anywhere with bodies of water. so she chose to stay at the Island until she gave birth to Mira.

'' So that means you were there when she gave birth?'' Ethan asked.

''No, unfortunately.'' He honestly answered. ''Two months later, I have to leave her cause I need to leave for Cambodia for five months. That's why I have to entrust her to mr. and mrs. Kersey's care. They stood as her guardian until she gave birth. However, there are some complications when she was giving birth.''

''What happened?'' Ethan butt in.

She went into coma as soon as she gave birth. Left with no choice, Mr and Mrs Kersey sent her to the nearest hospital in the province. She was confined for three months but the doctors couldn't tell as to why she suddenly went in coma. They even thought she won't make it. However, though it's expensive, Mr and Mrs Kersey didn't give up on her.

It was actually a miracle that she survived as well as the baby. Guess God isn't deaf at all. Clement smiled.

'' How did she live her life after waking up from coma?'' Ethan inquired.

'' She undergone a total rehab. But the physicians said that she might not be able to recover her memories anymore. The force of her labor and the three months coma had greatly affected her brain.''

Ethan suddenly mourned upon knowing that.

'' As to how she lived her life, she couldn't do it of course, without my help. But the kind of volunteer work I do seemingly encouraged her to try being an independent woman. She doesn't want to accept help from me anymore, so she tried applying for work everywhere.'' He chucked.

'' that's definitely Aisha...'' Ethan smiled painfully.

"Don't you want to know what had transpired that day? Why she got shot? And how did she end up in the ocean?'' Ethan continued but Clement twitched his lip annoyingly. Seems like Ethan wants to point out something indirectly.

'' Is it important?'' Clement answered. '' It was already in the past and I don't care anymore. The future is far more important to me.''

Ethan smirked as he raised his brow. '' Really? So you were never bothered to research what really happened to her?''

'' I am a doctor who heals not a journalist who writes stories about other people. Whether a person is a criminal or not, I still need to help them cause it is my duty to do so."

'' Okay... since you said so.'' He replied. '' Anyway, thank you for letting me know.'' He spun around and smiled at him gratefully. '' I'll see myself out.'' Then he exited the doctor's clinic.

He caressed his heart... the story he heard about Aisha's past was too heavy to bear. He felt guilty for not standing beside the woman while she undergone all those hardships. But thankfully, she made it.

No one must have seen him but he did cry on his way back to Estrella. Once again, he blamed himself for Aisha's misfortunes. '' I'm so sorry... trully am.'' He whispered.

Lazily, he picked his body up when he realized that his been lying on his bed for 10 minutes now. His Aisha must have been patiently waiting for him. So he took a quick shower and went out. There he found the woman preparing some dish.

The woman must have been concentrating on what she was doing since she didn't notice the man behind her. She only jolted when she felt someone hug her from behind.

'' Ethan!'' She exclaimed surprisingly.

'' Please, just for a minute... let me stay like this for just a minute.'' He whispered. The woman could feel his sadness therefore she stopped wiggling. Did something happened a while ago? She's not sure either.

After a minute or two, Ethan slowly releases the woman and sat on the chair opposite her. He needs to let the woman finish what she was doing first. His sentimental aura seems to have an effect on her.

'' I don't know what happened to you, but this tea should help you relax for the time being.'' The woman served a cup of camomille tea.

'' Alex...'' Ethan softly muttered as he grab the woman's hand. The woman looked at him in awe.

'' I know you feel the same way like I do towards you and I couldn't blame you if your thinking about Clement. I know you owe him your life... but...'' he paused for a while and look her in the eyes.

'' Alex, you have the freedom to chose want you want to do with your life. You have the freewill to choose who you want to love and be with for the rest of your life. Don't let your past control your destiny. If you realy want to repay Clement for all his goodness on you,then do you think he will be happy to know that your just trying to stay in his life because of your debts?''

Alex widened her eyes in shocked. So he knew? Dang!

'' Alex, Don't you think it's time to pay off your debts by living a happy and purposeful life? A life worthy of that second life?'' He continued.

'' E-Ethan... you don't understand...''

'' No, I totally understand, believe me. and I also know the difference of having someone in your life out of debt and out of love. There's a big difference on that. And I hope your not going to regret your choices in the future.''

Then the woman suddenly lowered her head and close her eyes. she understand what he realy meant,but then...

'' Ethan, I want to try... however...''

'' Maybe trying isn't enough?'' He interrupted then stood up to meet the woman's eyes. ''Instead of trying, can we both take the risk? I'm willing to stand by you and walk alongside you. I am willing to take whatever risk there is, as long as your here beside me.'' His eyes were full of love.

'' Can we?'' He furthered as he behold her seemingly teary eye.

After a few minutes of consideration, the woman nodded in aggreement, then a tear escaped her eyes. Ethan immediately smiled and gently captured the woman's quivering lips.

'' I won't disappoint you, that I promise.'' He voiced lovingly and cupped the woman with his tone arms. '' I love you.'' He muttered.

However, though Ethan confessed his love, he had never heard Alex responded. Not ever. But it's okay... maybe she's still in shocked from his revelation.
