176 Chapter 176: Extremely Desperate

How could she accept the fact that the man she loved and adored the most was now asking her to disappear in his life? It was the same as asking her to kill herself.

Spencer quickly pulled Nathalia away and stepped aside. Anna fell onto the ground, but she got up quickly, despite the pain, and glared at Nathalia as she shouted, "Nathalia Carter, who is it that got mum hurt?"

Wow. Impressive. She's questioning me. Ha. Nathalia couldn't help laughing out, outraged by Anna's ridiculousness.

"You," Nathalia replied.

Shocked, enraged, and terrified, Anna had her eyes wide open. "Watch your mouth, Nathalia Carter. Don't you remember what you swore?" Her pitch had gone higher than usual, sharp like a knife.

As usual, Anna was not to give up. She was trying to threaten Nathalia and put all the blame on her.

After what she had experienced, and the people that she had dealt with, Nathalia wasn't surprised nor scared, she remained calm.

However, Spencer seemed shocked and questioned instantly, "Swore? What's this about?"

Anna now realized she shouldn't have said it and that Nathalia didn't tell Spencer about it. She panicked for a little while, then lied, "She didn't want you to know what she did to mum and asked me to help her hide the truth. I pitied her, so I agreed, but I asked her to swear not to hurt people again, or she will die miserably." She was pleased with her quick and witted reaction. Then she pointed her finger at Nathalia, "Aren't you scared? Nathalia Carter. Don't forget the swear you made."

Nathalia's lips twitched, astonished by Anna's lies. She heaved a sigh of speechlessness.

"I'm not scared of what you made me swear, but I'm kind of scared to find out how dark you are and..."

Anna quickly interrupted, "See, you hear that? Spencer, she's admitted it!"

A heavy frown on his face, Spencer found Anna more and more outrageous. Who is this girl? Do I really know her?

"I trust Nathalia. I know her." Spencer said calmly.

He trusted Nathalia unconditionally. He had seen the beauty in her. She was too proud to even lie. She lived life with bravery, honesty, and a pure heart.

"Spencer, you believe her, but not me? We've known each other for over ten years, and how long have you known her?" Anna shouted anxiously.

A smile appeared on Spencer's face as he mocked, "Anna Jones, you know, some people remain strangers even though they had known each other for years, while some became best friends as soon as they met."

Anna was about to continue insulting Nathalia when she heard the familiar voice of a familiar conversation. She froze.

It was when she threatened Nathalia to swear so she would agree to donate blood to Mrs. Davidson. Nathalia had recorded it.

Anna didn't even dare to look at Spencer's face, her heart racing nervously, and furiously she rushed to grab Nathalia's phone. "Nathalia Carter! You recorded it! You cunning bitch!"

Spencer was too shocked to utter a word. Nathalia didn't tell me this. She skipped it. Poor girl, how much more has she suffered? Silly girl.

Nathalia pocketed her phone swiftly before Anna took it. "I only recorded it in case you wouldn't keep your words. I didn't expect that I would need it today. Actually, I didn't even tell Spencer about it, and now you forced me to. You asked for it."

Nathalia had learned how to protect herself. She might have seemed to comprise when she agreed to make the swear, but that was only for the time being, and she would not allow herself to be taken advantage of in the future.

"No. No. No. It's not true. Spencer. She faked it. It's not true." Anna suddenly realized that her subconscious reaction had just proved it true, and now she tried desperately to deny it.

"You know what, I will take the check back. You don't even deserve it. From now on, you have nothing to do with me and my mother. If we ever see you again, I will sue you and meet you at court instead of what you have done."

This was the end. All that had happened, all the love, be it fake or real, in the past years, meant nothing now.

Anna felt scared, abandoned. "Why? I saved mummy, and now you blame me?! Are you mad?"

Spencer took a deep breath and said, "Your selfishness disgusts me. I don't want to see your pretentious face again. Take her away." He gestured at the bodyguards, who immediately grabbed Anna's arms and dragged her towards the lift.

Anna screamed and struggled, kicking her legs about, "Spencer, listen to me. Please. No. No..." Then she managed to get her bodyguard to help. A chaotic fight started and lasted a good few minutes.

In the end, both Anna and her bodyguard were carried into the lift, and Anna's screaming slowly vanished as the lift went down.

Spencer leaned against the wall and heaved a sigh of relief. He seemed exhausted.

"Spencer, are you ok?" Nathalia asked worriedly.

Spencer looked at Nathalia with his tired eyes and took her to his arms. The familiar feeling of her weight on him felt comforting. He stroked her cheeks gently and loved the soft touch of them. "I know that some people are selfish, but I've never thought she would be so pretentious and mean. Just the thought of it makes me."

Though he had never loved Anna the same way she loved him, he had seen her as his younger sister and cared much about her. It was almost heartbreaking for him to see her true self and realized the dark side of the world again.
