264 Chapter 264: Rumors Are Just Rumors

Amy felt like she'd been slapped again on her face. Though enraged and embarrassed, she didn't know how to react anymore.

Mrs. Berry got an idea again. "Mrs. Davidson, Matt, is the son of your husband, after all. He's part of the family. Don't you think you are being a bit disrespectful to him and your husband?" She challenged her. And this time, she had cleverly got Matt and Curt involved.

Now that she said so, Curt had to offer a clear answer, and to clarify it in front of all these guests, it was no doubt doing Matt a great favor.

Curt knitted his brows and was about to answer, but Nathalia suddenly cut in. "Spencer, it's rather annoying when the outsiders interfere with our own family issue, isn't it?"

Spencer got the implication and said sternly to Mrs. Berry, "Mrs. Berry, please watch your tongue."

It was known that Spencer rarely spoke, and when he did, no one should challenge him. Mrs. Berry was rather frightened by the seriousness in Spencer's look.

"I was just..." I was just helping my son-in-law to be. She mumbled and winked at Amy.

"Mr. Curt Davidson, I understand how Matt must feel. People talk behind him, judge him because of his birth, and he can't really say anything. You are his father. I'm sure you will do something about it, won't you?" Amy said it aloud to make sure people heard it clearly.

Surely, the crowd was interested, though no one dared to ask directly. Now that it was the chance to find out, everyone pricked up their ears.

Nathalia realized that they were forcing Curt to make a statement in public. Once he clarifies it, things will get trickier. Then she came up with an idea and quickly disappeared into the crowd.

Spencer was a bit puzzled and worried. He watched her closely. Mrs. Davidson had realized it as well but couldn't think of a way to interrupt.

Matt looked at his father quietly. He seemed uncertain, worried, and hurt.

Though Curt was usually cold and indifferent, he felt unfair to Matt and wanted to defend him. "Those who talk behind me..." Just as he was to announce Matt's identity and accept him as a Davidson, Nathalia suddenly appeared right in front of him with a plate of cookies and a cheerful smile.

"Dad, you have to try this. It's delicious. I love it." She said sweetly as she handed him one and blushed bashfully.

Curt was stunned for a little while, reminded of the familiar face he once knew so well. As if he had been taken back in time, he forgot what he was going to say. "If you say so, I must try it then." He took it from Nathalia's hand and put it in his mouth.

"Yes, sir." The bodyguard was completely astonished. He had never seen Curt behave so.

The bodyguards who had possibly known Curt the best knew for sure that he never touched the food at parties, and when he dined out, he would ask someone to try the food first. He was very specific, some would say too demanding, with what to serve his stomach.

However, he had just accepted Nathalia's offer, and he accepted it happily. This is not Mr. Davidson, I know.

The bodyguard took a good look at Nathalia and told himself that this girl is someone very important. I shall never ever displease her.

"You should try it as well," Curt nodded to the crowd and said cheerfully. "It's delicious."

Soon people's attention was directed to the food. And the cookies were gone within minutes.

Spencer sat his parents down, and Nathalia brought two plates of food, one for Curt and the other for Mrs. Davidson.

Curt stared at the cod fillet and salad, surprised. "Why did you get me this?" he asked.

"Huh?" Cod and salad, I'm sure I remember it right. Nathalia thought. "Why? Don't you like it? This is what you had the most when we had dinner together last time."

"I do. Thank you." Curt replied gently, touched by Nathalia's thoughtfulness. That was the only time they dined together, and she remembered it. I bet neither of my sons has noticed, but she has.

She was a sweet girl. Even though she didn't like him much, she respected him.

Mrs. Davidson was surprised by what Nathalia had got her as well. It was her favorite grilled salmon and broccoli. What a sweet and considerate girl! She thought delightedly.

Nathalia whispered cheekily to Mrs. Davidson, "Mum, we need the strength to win this battle. Bon appetit."

"You cheeky little thing. Aren't you sweet?! Thank you." Mrs. Davidson smiled and pecked a kiss on Nathalia's face.

Spencer came over and said to Nathalia, "What would you like my little darling?" The two went to the table and picked their food together. They chatted and laughed.

Curt watched them, and there seemed to be a smile on his face. The two came back with two full plates and sat opposite their parents. The four looked like a perfect family.

People were watching and couldn't help noticing how thoughtful Nathalia was. It looks like she's getting along very well with her parents-in-law. And they understood that one would not like to displease her because if one upset her, it meant upsetting the whole family.

However, they also remembered the rumors about how cruel Nathalia was to her own family and what she did to her father. They wondered how that could possibly be true, seeing her sweet smile and such amiable, elegant mannerism.

Rumors are just rumors. One believes what he sees. She's such a gentle and thoughtful person, a good wife, and a wonderful daughter-in-law. I don't see anything cruel about her at all.
