286 Chapter 286: You’ve Heard I

Spencer didn't like the question, but he answered clearly, "Yes. She trusts me with her life by marrying me, and I'd like to and will do the same for her. She's my wife, my partner for life. I want her to be happy, and I will do the best I can to ensure that."

Nathalia gazed at Spencer as she listened, and tears filled her eyes. I love you, Spencer. She thought to herself.

"Spencer, you...you have changed." aunt Emma stammered, "I have been...naive. I thought I have always treated you like...my own child. And I trusted you. I thought you would be just and fair." She sounded pitiful.

Aunt Emma was hoping to win Spencer's support, pretending to be the pitiful one.

On hearing so, Nathalia rolled her eyes in disdain. Huh. Pretentious.

Spencer grew more displeased with aunt Emma. It's herself that was on the wrong side. Nathalia is the victim here. Why is she lying? Why doesn't she like Nathalia from the very beginning?

"We know deep down who is right and who is wrong. And even if my wife is on the wrong side, I will stand by her, as always." He tried to say it calmly, holding back his anger.

Aunt Emma understood that there was no point arguing anymore. Like father, like son. They are both stubbornly devoted to the one they love and detached from those that they don't care about, despite how hard these women try to win their hearts. It must be in the Davidson blood.

"I see. I will book my flight tomorrow and will never come back, so you don't have to worry." She said plainly and hung up.

Spencer was a bit stunned. Am I being cruel? He thought a bit regretfully.

"She's leaving?" Nathalia patted his shoulder gently.

"Yeah. It's better." Spencer said. How did things end up this way? There are only a few people that I care about. Aunt Emma is one, but now that I have to choose between aunt Emma and Nathalia, of course, it will be Nathalia.

Nathalia seemed to have guessed Spencer's thoughts and said tentatively, "You can still ask her to stay if you'd like..." She understood that Spencer would probably feel the loss.

Nathalia never had the intention to chase aunt Emma away from Spencer's life, but she wouldn't compromise too much if aunt Emma wouldn't change the way she treated her.

Spencer saw the concerned look on Nathalia's face, and it melted his heart. He cupped her cheeks with his hands and pecked a kiss on her lips affectionately. "What I'd like is my Nathalia to be happy." He said with a grin.

He would rather hurt others than see his love upset. She loved him so much, and she had comprised so much for him. She had brought so much light and joy into his life and made him a much happier person.

"Then I will follow you around 24 hours a day to make sure you're happy all the time!" Spencer teased, mimicking Nathalia's bashful tone, and it made Nathalia giggle.

His phone rang again. Spencer knitted his brows. Again? Who is it? He was thinking of not answering, but as he glanced at the screen, he hesitated at the sight of the name.

Nathalia took a look, pouted her lips, and said, "Hmm. It's dad. Why not answer it?"

So Spencer did. "What is it?" He said icily.

He's still angry. He won't even call me dad. Curt thought.

"Your mum is with you at home, right?" He asked directly.

"Yes," Spencer answered impatiently and rolled his eyes. What does he want? He wondered.

Out of curiosity, Nathalia leaned over and listened. Curt was quiet for a while, then he said bluntly, "I remember she loves chocolate muffins, right?"

Both Spencer and Nathalia were stunned. "Right. Why?" Spencer muttered. It was something normal to hear from any normal person, but it sounded the strangest from Curt.

"Alright. Thanks. See you later." Curt said plainly and hung up.

Spencer stared at his phone for a good while. "What's he planning? That's weird."

"Perhaps he wants to make it up for mum," Nathalia said quite certainly. Spencer pondered over Nathalia's answer. To make it up? Will mum forgive him, though?

The more Nathalia thought about it, the more certain she was, and she shook her head and sighed. "Men are all the same. They never learn to cherish what they have until they lose it."

"Not all men. For example, myself!" Spencer exclaimed in defense. Nathalia nodded with a grin. "Oh, that's for sure. My honey is an exception. You are the best in the world. I adore you."

It was as sweet as honey and brought a proud grin to Spencer's face. Spencer picked her up and sat her on his lap. "Can you say it again? That was the sweetest thing I've heard. I wish I had recorded it."

Nathalia giggled bashfully. "You've heard it."

"Please. Please." Spencer pleaded and pretended to tickle her. Nathalia giggled louder as she tried to free herself from his 'attack.'

"My two loveliest children, would you like to have some wine with me?" Mrs. Davidson asked with a smile. They had no idea when she approached and watched them delightedly.

They turned to look at her instantly, and Nathalia quickly got off Spencer's lap and blushed. "Huh? Wine? Mum, you rarely drink, and you never drink wine at home."

Spencer looked at her curiously.

Mrs. Davidson waved her hand casually and said, "I will start today then. I don't know. I just feel like doing something I've never done before, you know."

"Mum's growing to be a rebellious teenager now." Spencer teased. That's very unusual, but Mum has been surprising lately, and I guess she has a very good reason to be.
