"Here you go Lady Melissa, I've labelled all of the files names and there are pictures of each of the maids inside so you know which is which, there are also pictures of other things."
Derreck said, telling Lady Melissa a bit about what the files contained.
"Alright, that's enough Derreck, you're dismissed."
Lady Melissa said, as Derreck quickly left, bowing his head down before leaving.
Lady Melissa carried the files and report upstairs with her to her room. She had an hour or an hour and a half to sort through the files before she had to eat dinner, or she could skip it and try and just read all the files.
There were a lot of files, since Lady Melissa didn't know the maids, other than Sophia of course.
Though, to be honest, Lady Melissa didn't know much about Sophia either, which led her to wonder if Sophia could have committed the crime?
Though there was no way right? Sophia had been one of her most loyal maids, even from her past life.
Lady Melissa could trust Sophia right? After all, Sophia had practically risked her own life for Lady Melissa.
Lady Melissa quickly tried to get herself to stop thinking about Sophia, instead opening one of the flies about the maids she didn't know about.
There was nothing too interesting in the report, only including how the maid used to live in the capital with her parents, she was quite well off already and was introduced to Derreck since she wanted to be a maid.
The maid had applied to be one of the maids for the Shayla estate and had managed to pass the interview, the last thing for her to do before officially being a maid of the Shayla estate was to meet with the head butler, Derreck.
Even if the maid or servant had a great background, if Derreck didn't like them then they would be rejected.
Since Derreck was surprisingly amazing at knowing and finding out people's personality and their true intentions.
The Duke decided that it would be best if Derreck was the one who did matters like this, since Derreck could easily find out a person's true intentions.
The maid was apparently married a few years ago, but her husband had passed away just a few months ago. Maybe the maid was in need of some money so she committed the crime?
Lady Melissa thought, already suspecting the maid was the culprit, but based on seeing the report it didn't seem likely.
She had to remind herself not to make a decision immediately, she needed to use her brain and make decisions based on logic rather than how she felt.
So,Lady Melissa decided to read the other files, wondering if there was perhaps anything sketchy or out of the blue regarding one of the maids.
Or perhaps there was a reason why one of the maids commited the crime, like maybe they were in dire need of money because a family member was in the hospital.
Nevertheless, Lady Melissa thought that finding a reason why a certain individual, in this case the maids, would commit such a crime.
If she found a reason or anything with the remaining maids that shenhad narrowed down, she could narrow down her list of suspects again.
Lady Melissa took a blue pen, crossing out the names of the women who she had found a reason to commit such a crime, and unfortunately she had to cross out Sophia's name as well.
Lady Melissa had secretly hoped that Sophia didn't commit the crime, but she couldn't treat Sophia differently from the other maids.
Whether Sophia knew it or not, Sophia would be one of the people that Lady Melissa would suspect of committing the crime.
Sophia had a reason to commit the crime and everything so far about the evidence that Lady Melissa had collected made Sophia a suspect.
Instead, it made Lady Melissa start to feel a bit more worried. What if Sophia did commit the crime? What if Sophia betrayed her or sold her out?
Lady Melissa couldn't bring herself to admit that as a possibility, she just couldn't. After all she and Sophia had to go through, both in her past and current life.
She couldn't believe Sophia would commit this crime, to anyone, especially her. Or maybe that was what Lady Melissa tried to make herself believe.
Lady Melissa just didn't want to accept reality, she just couldn't bring herself to accept that Sophia committing the crime was one of the many possibilities.
Though who could blame her? Sophia had practically died for Lady Melissa, so it wasn't weird that Lady Melissa was desperately trying to convince herself that Sophia didn't commit the crime.
But, well if Sophia, however commited the crime, Lady Melissa just wouldn't know how she would react to the whole situation and how she would even punish Sophia , the maid who had been with her from the very start.
The maid who had been with her through thick and thin, and had ended up losing her life because of Lady Melissa.
Lady Melissa couldn't believe that the very same maid who had risked so many things for Lady Melissa would commit a crime against Lady Melissa.
One could call it desperation, or hopelessness, but the inevitable fact was that Lady Melissa wouldn't be able to move on from this if it was Sophia who had committed the crime.
Or at the very least it would be difficult for Lady Melissa to move on after an incident like this, and her trust issues?
Lady Melissa already had trust issues because of her previous life, but if she found out one of the people she trusted the most would turn back on her?
There was no telling how Lady Melissa would be, and her trust issues would increase by a lot. She was already careful of people, but with this?
Lady Melissa might not even trust anyone anymore.. It might seem dramatic but Lady Melissa didn't trust a lot of people, and if even one of them turned their back on her, it would obviously hurt her a lot, even if she didn't show it.
