Chapter 137 - 137

However, Lady Melisssa soon started to notice a pattern with her mothers relative's, they would only ever come to the Shayla estate when they needed a favour, money from her mother, or when they were financially struggling.

The Duchess was being used over and over again, and she herself knew it.

She knew that she was being used by her relatives, and even by her own siblings, but she had just let it happen since they were family.

If she didn't help them then who else would? She knew it wasn't right for them to continuously take advantage of her, for money, but she couldn't stop herself from doing so.

It was as if the Duchess was doing this subconsciously as if it was her second nature to allow her relatives to take her money.

The worst part was that the Duchess' relatives would simply ignore her existence, and never come again unless they needed help of course.

It was an endless cycle that had kept repeating itself, over and over and over.

Even Lady Melissa was sick of it, knowing that her mother was hurt every time her relatives would appear just for the sake of money, never for family.

The Duchess' relative's would never even pay back the money to her.

Lady Melissa had seen her mother crying after meeting a relative of hers, who had come to ask for some money from her, which of course her mother had given.

The Duchess cried, sobbing as she felt like she was being used only for money by her relatives, which was true.

On that very day, Lady Melissa swore to herself that since she wasn't going to be the head of the family, the very least she could do was to make those very same relatives that made her mother cry, was to make their lives a living nightmare.

And, here Lady Melissa was, being generously given by the Universe a second chance in life, since she was going to be the head of the family, she could cut all ties with them, once she was the head of the family, not now.

Though if she was given the opportunity to cut ties with her mother's relatives right now, at this very moment, she would take that opportunity without even having to think twice for it. They had made her mother cry, one of the toughest women, if not the toughest woman Lady Melissa had ever known in her life.

How could she let them make her mother cry like that? The Duke didn't know of the incident regarding the Duchess crying though, as she had asked Lady Melissa not to mention anything of the sort to the Duke.

Lady Melissa originally didn't want to hide this from her father, as she thought he would be of some help to her regarding the whole situation, but her mother had asked her not to tell him, so she decided to respect her wishes, even if she felt a little guilty about it.

Well maybe she felt more than a little guilty about it, heck she felt like crap after not telling her father about the whole thing that happened with her mother and her mother's relatives. Lady Melissa could keep a secret, and she was used to hiding secrets from her parents, but sometimes she felt bad for hiding secrets like these.

It wasn't her fault for feeling bad about hiding secrets like these, and her mother was grateful that Lady Melissa was able to keep her promise. It was just human nature for Lady Melissa to feel guilty like this.

She blamed herself for not telling her father, because maybe if she did then her mother's relatives would stop coming to the Shayla estate and try and take advantage of their mother, but why would Lady Melissa believe her father would even do this?

The Duchess' relatives had gone over to the Shayla estate multiple times, yet her father had never directly turned them down or anything, he had only talked about it with the Duchess, and it was just all bark but no bite.

To be quite frank, Lady Melissa had originally felt bad for hiding this from her father, before she remembered that her father had practically done nothing to her mother's relatives.

Why would Lady Melissa think he would even do something if he hadn't done anything for her mother up to now?

Lady Melissa knew she was being mean, and inconsiderate.

Or maybe her father had tried to deny her mother's relatives before, Lady Melissa would never know, and neither would she ever find out.

Lady Melissa did hope that it was the latter though, she wanted to believe that her father wasn't as bad as she had made him to be.

She knew that her father was a kind man, but he needed to have boundaries, and the same thing went for her mother.

They were extremely kind, caring and understanding parents, and she couldn't last a day without their presence.

Which was kind of ironic, since it had last been a few days since she was in both of their presences.

Lady Melissa couldn't ask anything more from a parent, although each of them had their ups and downs, Lady Melissa was extremely grateful for them.

She might not have been born in the world because she wanted to, but she was grateful for even being born into the world, and for her parents to actually raise her.

They didn't abandon her and just toss her into one of the maids when she was born, they would try their best to take care of her.

Granted, that sometimes they were busy so they had to ask the maid to take care of Lady Melissa.

Nevertheless, they cared for Lady Melissa, and whenever they were given an opportunity to prove it, they would gladly take advantage of the opportunity.

Parents would do anything for their children, and the Duke and Duchess was no exception to this.
