Chapter 138 - 138

Lady Melissa wondered what her life would be like if her parents had never tried to have a relationship with her if she was like the other noble families.

Where once the baby was born, the maid would just end up taking care of the baby, and the mother and father were left alone to do their own things.

Even if the mother and father try to have dinners with their children once or twice a week when the child is older, it would be harder to form that special connection.

Since the special connection had to be there since childhood, though there was always a chance it could happen in a child's teen years or adult years.

But, there was no doubt, it would be much harder if it happened in a child's teen years or adult years.

Lady Melissa just hoped that one day she wouldn't be like those parents who would just neglect and abandon their child after giving birth.

She wanted to be the best parent she could be, and she wanted to be just like her parents, who were her very first role models that she had always looked up to, even in her first life.

No matter what would happen to Lady Melissa and her parents, at the end of the day she would still love them unconditionally, and she had no doubt they would do the same thing for her.

Lady Melissa decided it was finally time for her to stand up from the dinner table and go back to her room, to wait for her bodyguard to appear, and hopefully, her parents would be introducing the bodyguard to her.

However, Lady Melisssa knew that it would probably be Derreck, the head butler who would introduce the bodyguard to her.

But, there was nothing wrong with hoping her parents would be the ones introducing the bodyguard to her, and she would be able to catch a glimpse of them, even if it wasn't for a long time.

Lady Melissa assumed that she would be getting introduced to her new bodyguard in less than an hour since she had lessons in thirty minutes.

Lady Melissa went up the stairs, she had enough thinking about her problems and everything, she had practically spent the entire night, and this morning thinking about them.

Though she could focus on other things that weren't her problems, such as the letter, she hoped that the new bodyguard would arrive soon since she needed him to find out more about the five maids including Sophia, as much as she didn't believe Sophia would ever commit a crime like that.

Though technically this was still kind of Lady Melissa's problem.

Lady Melissa would be more than happy to find out if this was all for nothing, and that none of her employees would betray her, or any of the Shayla family members.

Unless it was her mother's greedy relatives, now those people, she wouldn't mind her employees betraying them.

Lady Melissa highly doubted that any of her employees worked for her mother's greedy relatives, but if she did find out any of them worked for them.

Then, let's just say it wouldn't be pleasant for the employees.

Lady Melissa wondered where the location where she would even meet Duke Alphonso would be, since it couldn't be too far from the royal palace in case anything had happened to the Crown Prince.

Technically, Lady Melissa could always discuss things with Duke Alphonso in the hunting event, but they would most likely get caught with the number of guards in the hunting event.

And, rumours would spread regarding Lady Melissa and Duke Alphonso.

Truth be told, she was angry that she couldn't even have a chat with a man, without mamas everywhere, gossiping about it.

Without news articles talking about it and making fun of her.

It was the sad truth, if a woman was even seen talking to a man, she would immediately be gossiped about, especially in high society.

Mamas were ruthless, and they would try and do everything in their power to tarnish a woman's reputation.

A few words might seem harmless enough, but those same few words could negatively impact a person's life.

A woman had to follow society's expectations, and they had to be able to do a variety of things, and they were also expected to react to certain situations in a way that was deemed acceptable.

Lady Melissa would feel jealous of boys sometimes, they didn't have to go through all this pressure from society expecting them to act properly.

But, at the same time, Lady Melissa knew that it wasn't fair for the boys, they had to carry the burden of carrying their family, and taking care of everything.

And, Lady Melissa had to be both of them at the same time, she needed to have the skills of a boy, and she needed to be proper like a woman.

It would stress her out sometimes, society would want her to act a certain way, but she also had to do something else, and if she didn't do both of the things society would label her.

A few words from one of the highest status people could also influence one's reputation, such as words calling one unacceptable or rude, especially if one was a woman would lead to the same woman being uninvited from many parties.

Sexual intercourse before marriage was heavily frowned on as well, on women, men although they were obligated to take care of the family, and be the head of the family, they were allowed to act how they wanted.

They could be free, and different genders had different expectations. For women it was to be a good housewife to serve their husband, while for men it was to take care of the family.

Although times have changed, society still thought this way, Lady Melissa wondered that maybe one day she would be able to change that.

Women could be as free as men, and that they could act however they wanted to.

That man could help their wife if the wife wanted to be the head of the family.

Lady Melissa didn't see anything wrong with that, and she supported it.
