Their daughter hadn't appeared in a few days and all of a sudden she wakes them up and tells them to go down?
Which part of it does not sound suspicious? Lady Melissa knew that her parents had probably forgotten their wedding anniversary, so this would be a good chance for them to be surprised and be relaxed.
Lady Melissa quickly double checked one more time, making sure that everything was in its place.
"Derreck, go up and tell my parents to go down, say that it's an emergency and that you require both their presence right away, and don't mention anything about this."
Lady Melissa said, as she pointed at everything she had prepared for her parents, wanting it to be a surprise and for her parents to have a genuine and happy reaction to the whole thing.
Derreck quickly nodded his head, understanding, as he sent Lady Melissa a little smirk and wink, he was going to make sure that they didn't have a clue about this whole thing that Lady Melissa had planned for them.
Derreck quickly made his way to the stairs, knocking a few times on his master's doors, before they replied.
"What is it Derreck?"
The Duke asked, wondering why Derreck had knocked on the door at such an early hour of the morning.
"There's an emergency downstairs, we need you and the Duchess now."
Derreck said, emphasizing on the now, as the Duke quickly woke up the Duchess, opening the door and heading down the stairs immediately.
The both of them rushed down the stairs, knowing that if something was so important for Derreck to wake them up so early then it would be important.
Since Derreck would rarely wake them up at such early hours of the day, knowing that the both of them needed sleep.
The Duchess let out a gasp once she saw what was downstairs, as tears were threatening to fall down from her face.
Lady Melissa wasn't one to give gifts or prepare anything during her parent's birthday or anniversary, at least for the previous years.
The past Lady Melissa had thought that her parents already had everything they wanted, and although that was true to a certain extent, they would want nothing more than to spend time with their one and only daughter, or child.
Time was more precious than anything else to her parents, with the sufficient amount of time one could fall in love, or make enough money to be considered a billionaire, or millionaire.
The Duke's reaction was a bit similar to the Duchess' except that his was less dramatic than his wife's.
"This is for us?"
The Duke asked, still in disbelief as Lady Melissa had never given any of them anything for anniversaries or birthdays before.
"Well, the flowers are for mother, and the cake is for the both of you, but I have something that's for you dad."
Lady Melissa said, as she took the leather watch which was in a box, and slowly approached her dad, as she gave him the box.
"Open it up dad."
Lady Melissa said, as her father was ecstatic, even if she hadn't given him anything he would still be, his daughter had cared about her parent's anniversary, and from the look of things maybe this year, she would want to spend it with them, the both of them.
The Duke quickly took the box from Lady Melissa's hands, as he slowly opened the box, and he instantly looked up, giving Lady Melissa the biggest smile he could muster.
"Thank you Melissa, you're the best daughter, or child, two parents could ever have."
The Duke said, thankful for Lady Melissa buying him the leather watch.
It was a custom made leather watch, and although he hadn't spent much time inspecting it yet, based on it's appearances and it's texture he knew that he would love it, and he so happened to be in dire need of watches.
"No problem dad, I love you too."
Lady Melissa said, as she walked to get the flowers she was going to give to her mother.
"This one's for you mom, I know you like roses a lot, so I hope you enjoy this present."
Lady Melissa said, as she handed over the big bouquet of flowers to her mother, who smiled happily once receiving it.
"Thank you Melissa, I can't express how much I'm thankful and lucky to have a daughter like you."
The Duchess said, as she let out a teary smile, tears threatening to fall from her face once more.
"You're welcome mom, and I can't express how thankful and lucky I am to have both of you as my parents."
Lady Melissa said, as she pulled her parents into a big hug, with all three of them together.
"I love you two, thank you for being my parents, and I know we're not always on the best of terms but, I want you guys to know that no matter what problems or challenges we might face, that I love the both of you at the end of the day."
Lady Melissa said, as tears started to form in her eyes, grateful for both her parents, and that they were her parents, not someone else's.
"Aww, I was supposed to give the speech!"
The Duke playfully said, as he jokingly hit Lady Melissa's shoulder.
"On a serious note though, we want you to know that we'll love you no matter any of the challenges or difficulties you'll face, and that no matter what happens, you can always come to us for help if you need anything. We'll always be here for you."
The Duchess said, smiling to Lady Melissa, proud of her daughter.
As she pulled the three of them into a group hug, which they shared in silence, and stayed there for a while.
"I'd like to stay here for a longer time but I think I'm gonna start crying if we keep hugging like this."
Lady Melissa said, breaking the silence, whilst the three of them were still having their group hug together.
The Duke and Duchess let out a laugh, as the group hug had ended.
