Chapter 172 - 172

Twelve hours had passed, and it was the day of the ball, where Lady Melissa would be meeting Duchess Victoria.

She was ecstatic, and Sophia had come back from her short vacation so it was something else to be ecstatic for.

Lady Melissa was curious on whether the ball would look exactly the same as it looked like in her previous life.

Lady Melissa could still vividly remember the ball since it was the first ever ball in which she was humiliated by someone.

Though Lady Melissa wouldn't let things happen the same way as how it did, she was going to change it, though she did wonder what kind of butterfly effect it'd have if she was going to change things in the ball.

Maybe if Lady Melissa had acted this way something that didn't happen in her previous life would happen.

Maybe an unexpected guest would appear, or something. Duchess Victoria's balls were one of the biggest events of the year.

She would hold it annually, and all kinds of nobles would come, the masquerade was for a sense of being able to hide themselves.

So nobody would be able to judge them, no matter what they did, even if it was the simplest of actions, or even if it was by their appearance.

Lady Melissa was quite thankful that there were masquerades, as that way people wouldn't be able to recognize her even though they had heard of her appearance and knew what she looked like.

It gave her a sense of comfort, which was what Duchess Victoria had intended to do with making people wear masks.

Since Duchess Victoria's balls were one of the biggest events of the year, sometimes even members of the royal family would attend the ball.

It was obvious from their blonde hair that it was the royal family, or at least whoever had blonde hair had attended the ball.

There would always be gossip articles the next day talking about the ball, and talking about which dashing handsome man had managed to catch the eyes of many young women at the event.

And many guesses on who the dashing handsome man was, the main guesses of course being Duke Gaston or Duke Mason.

This was going to be Lady Melissa's first time going to a ball in this life (excluding the ball that she had held earlier when she had been given the second chance at life).

The ball held by Duchess Victoria would start at 3 P.M. and Lady Melissa wasn't planning on getting there till 4 P.M.

Although Lady Melissa hated people who weren't punctual, she wanted to make a grand entrance and suprise whoever was there.

She was sure she'd catch the attention of many, including both men and women. All eyes would be on her, as they should be.

And because of the ball being held at 3 P.M. and this being the first ball Lady Melissa would ever attend, she had decided to prepare for the ball early.

Not like Lady Melissa had much of a choice though, since even if she didnt want to prepare for the ball hours before it she'd still be forced to.

Lady Melissa didn't want to make herself a laughing stock, especially with the number of people that were going to be present at Duchess Victoria's ball.

Lady Melissa had been meeting people a number of times this life, and had even held her very first ball and gone to a tea party.

The difference was that in the ball that she held there were around thirty people that were present, and that for the tea party there were around ten people.

Duchess Victoria's balls were prestigious and exclusive but a large number of people were invited, since there were many nobles that were prestigious as well.

Every year in each one of Duke Victoria's balls, there would be hundreds of nobles being invited to the ball and attending it.

It was why Duchess Victoria's balls were one of the biggest events of the year, only her ball could compete with one held by the royal palace.

Nobody else's ball could even come close between the two of them, and Duchess Victoria intended to keep it that way.

Lady Melissa used to hate Duchess Victoria for humiliating her in front of everybody, though she was thankful that it was a masquerade party so nobody could know who she was.

After what had happenned to Lady Melissa in her past life though, her eyes were opened and she became grateful to Duchess Victoria.

The resentment and anger she had held for the Duchess had soon turned into Lady Melissa being thankful to the Duchess.

It was a lesson for Lady Melissa to stand up for herself, and so were all her past encounters with other nobles humiliating her.

It was a test of sorts by the universe to get Lady Melissa to finally stand up for herself for once, yet it had so horribly failed in doing that.

"Anddd we're done!"

Sophia cheerfully said as she had finally finished tying up Lady Melissa's hair, and putting hair ornaments on it, mainly being hair ornaments with diamonds in them.

As ridiculously as it sounded, her parents had actually gotten hair ornaments that contained diamonds in them, it made Lady Melissa look unique in a way, something that would set her apart from others.

Lady Melissa believed that anybody could be good looking if they wanted to, only that most lacked the confidence.

Lady Melissa found people who were confident in themselves good looking, because they were so confident in themselves.

Though there was a certain extent to how confident a person could be, if one was too confident to the point they become bossy, and think that they're better than everyone then Lady Melissa didn't consider that attractive at all.

This time, Lady Melissa was going to be the person who was confident in themselves, so much so that others see her as beautiful because of it, including both men and women.

Unless the men in question liked women who were insecure of themselves, in which Lady Melissa absolutely hated those type of men.
