Lady Melissa had to maintain the reputation she had built up in the first few hours, an elegant and refined Lady, one that looked too beautiful and intimidating for men to approach which for some reason would scare men seeing someone so elegant and someone so amazing.
While Lady Melissa was sipping some champagne, a man had suddenly approached her.
"Would you do me the honour of sharing this dance with you Lady in white?"
The man said, as Lady Melissa quickly realized who he was.
It was none other than Duke Ajakiel, a man who had four wives, and three sons, with four daughters, and to top it off, he was seventy years old.
Out of all the men Lady Melissa had wanted to ask her to dance, this definitely wasn't on her list.
The man was older than her father, no, he could be her grandfather, which, unfortunately, or fortunately just so happened to be dead.
"I am flattered by the proposal Duke Ajakiel, though unfortunately, my legs are too tired to stand up, maybe next time?"
Lady Melissa said to him, as she put on a fake smile, not wanting to dance with someone like him.
The look he gave her was disgusting, as he stared up and down, glancing at her chest for a few seconds as he bit his lip.
The action didn't go unnoticed by Lady Melissa.
As much as she wanted to kick his balls, it would be completely 'unwomanly' of her to do such a thing.
She couldn't risk it, not here and not now.
Though there was no saying what Lady Melissa would do after the ball had ended, as long as nobody would find out, then it was alright.
"Oh c'mon, I'm pretty sure you're not that tired."
Duke Ajakiel said as he tried to convince Lady Melissa to dance with him.
"I believe that she's tired, so why don't you just go and leave?"
Duke Alphonso said as he emerged from behind Duke Ajakiel, surprising him.
Duke Ajakiel was way shorter than Duke Alphonso, and he was being aggressive as well.
"I never even wanted her anyways, go and have her, she's all yours."
Duke Ajakiel said as he scoffed, leaving the both of them.
"You okay?"
Duke Alphonso said, not realizing that the woman was Lady Melissa.
"Yeah, thanks for the help, I wouldn't know how else I'd be able to handle him."
Lady Melissa said as Duke Alphonso nodded his head, leaving her to go back to his associates.
Lady Melissa wanted to ask him whether he knew the Crown Prince would be there or not, but she knew she was being watched.
She didn't know exactly who was watching her, but she knew it wasn't anyone from her side.
She could feel their intense stares on her body, as she tried her best to ignore them.
Lady Melissa had finished drinking some bourbon, as she took a glass of water, trying not to get too drunk.
"So, have any fine men in here caught your eye?"
Duchess Victoria said as she came to Lady Melissa.
"I'd say yes, but then I'd be lying to you."
Lady Melissa jokingly replied, in which the Duchess let out a half-hearted laugh.
"I believe that it isn't better to rush things, though I was pretty curious on whether any of these fine gentlemen might catch your eye. Very fine gentlemen if I must say."
The Duchess said, watching Lady Melissa's expression.
"They're just not my type I guess."
Lady Melissa said as she gave Duchess Victoria a smile, feeling uncomfortable for some reason.
"Well, it takes time and effort for a man to be the 'right' one."
Duchess Victoria said as she took a seat next to the empty chair beside Lady Melissa.
"Though, I am quite surprised with the fact that not a lot of men haven't been asking for your hand for a dance, or that none of them has sent any proposals for marriage yet. You look stunning if I may say so myself."
Duchess Victoria said, complimenting Lady Melissa once more.
Truthfully, Lady Melissa still had her guard up against Duchess Victoria, it was weird why she was acting so 'nice' when she had already been acting nice enough the first time around.
Unless Duchess Victoria was planning to pull something on Lady Melissa again, then it would make sense.
"Thank you for the compliment Duchess Victoria, you look amazing as well."
Lady Melissa said, giving the Duchess a smile.
"Perhaps men are just intimidated by your beauty, and how you present yourself. Can't blame them with a woman as fine as you."
Duchess Victoria said as Lady Melissa let out a laugh.
Even if the Duchess was planning to pull something on her, Lady Melissa was thankful to the Duchess, she was able to relax and take her mind, and eyes from the Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman for a few seconds.
In the midst of Lady Melissa laughing, she could hear footsteps getting louder and louder, heading in her direction.
Lady Melissa turned her head, wondering just who it was that was coming to talk to her.
Lady Melissa's face was extremely pale, and it was as if she had just seen a ghost, though it was only for a split second.
Lady Melissa quickly adjusted her expression though, making sure that nobody had seen her face.
None other than the person or persons who were heading in her direction was the Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman themselves.
Lady Melissa immediately stood up, trying to avoid the Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman.
That was until Duchess Victoria had caught her.
"Where are you going?"
Duchess Victoria asked Lady Melissa, sounding demanding, wanting to know where Duchess Victoria was going.
Before Lady Melissa could even think of an answer, the Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman were right in front of her, only a few feet away from her, and Lady Melissa wasn't prepared for what was going to come next.
