Lady Melissa closed her eyes, getting ready at what they were going to do or say to her.

But it never came, no words or actions were directed to her, and she certainly didn't feel any pain from her face, or from any part of her body for that matter.

"Thank you for inviting the both of us to the party, Duchess Victoria."

The Crown Prince said, as he thanked Duchess Victoria for inviting the both of them to the party, to which Lady Melisssa assumed they meant the brunette-haired woman.

Lady Melissa's eyes slowly opened hearing the Crown Prince talking to Duchess Victoria.

The brunette-haired woman only boredly standing beside the Crown Prince while he talked to Duchess Victoria.

Lady Melissa made eye contact with the brunette-haired woman for a few seconds as she quickly gave her a smile.

It wasn't the kind smile that Lady Melissa would often give or receive from her peers.

No, it was the intimidating fake smile one would use, and it was the same one the brunette-haired woman had given Lady Melissa when she had first spotted her in her entrance with the Crown Prince.

Lady Melissa's heart was practically beating out of her chest, she didn't know what to do, how to act or how to even respond.

Lady Melissa was frozen on the spot, not knowing what to do.

Thankfully, the conversation with the Crown Prince and the Duchess had quickly ended in the next few minutes, as numerous nobles had started to surround the Crown Prince once more.

And since there were hundreds of nobles in the venue, the Crown Prince had no choice but to entertain each one of their antics.

Before the Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman had walked away however, she quickly gave Lady Melissa one last smile, waving her right arm at Lady Melissa, while her left arm was intertwined with the Crown Prince's.

Lady Melissa was at a loss of words, she needed to find out about the brunette-haired now.

As much as Lady Melissa simply wanted to confront her right here and right now, there were security guards for the Crown Prince.

Although it was a rule that there were no security guards or personal maids inside of the venue, there was an exception for the royal family due to the number of assassination attempts they would receive each year.

There were multiple guards at every corner of the room, and one wrong move, and Lady Melissa could be threatened with a dagger or knife on her throat.

Another problem was that the Crown Prince was constantly with the brunette-haired woman.

The both of them stuck together, even while the Crown Prince was entertaining numerous nobles.

It was sort of frustrating for Lady Melissa, knowing that she could just ask the person that was in the very same room with her about everything and find out why she was even here, yet she couldn't.

Lady Melissa remembered that in her previous life, the Crown Prince hadn't even attended the ball, much less brought a woman with him to a ball.

He had never done that, since he knew that if he brought one girl along with him to a ball, then others would soon follow and beg him to bring them to other balls.

Lady Melissa could only watch from the sidelines as the brunette-haired woman and the Crown Prince interacted with each other.

After many more hours and much more dancing, Lady Melissa had eventually grown tired, deciding that it was time for her to retire.

The Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman had left hours ago, saying that there were important matters to deal with in the royal palace.

Duke Alphonso had left too, along with the Crown Prince and brunette-haired woman so she had no chance to ask him any questions.

Duke Gaston had left an hour ago, saying that there was some paperwork he needed to check.

And now it was time for Lady Melissa to leave as well, and to retire into her home, and just sleep everything off, or at least try to, she knew she probably wouldn't be getting any sleep.

And if by some miracle she did, then she knew that the brunette-haired woman would be there in her dreams, haunting her.

Lady Melissa knew that by the next day, there were going to be multiple news outlets reporting about the Crown Prince and the brunette-haired woman he had brought along to the ball.

There were eyes and ears everywhere, even in a ball as prestigious as Duchess Victoria's.

After all, it was the first time that the Crown Prince had even done such a thing, bringing a woman to a ball.

And he hadn't even mentioned to anyone regarding the brunette-haired woman's name in the ball, and the nobles knew better than to cross him.

They didn't want to end up on the Crown Prince's bad side, after all, he could be ruthless if he wanted to.

Lady Melissa would know, she had seen him being ruthless multiple times, to multiple different people.

Lady Melissa after, much deciding, decided that she'd bid farewell to Duchess Victoria before leaving the party, feeling bad if she didn't.

"Unfortunately, I have to go now Duchess Victoria. I really enjoyed the party today, I would love to attend again next year."

Lady Melisssa said, as Duchess Victoria quickly nodded her head, and Lady Melissa left the party, not sparing another glance.

She let out a sigh of relief, finally, just finally, she could get away from all of this.

Lady Melissa was greeted with both Sophia and Justin waiting for her, as Lady Melissa had interrupted their intense staring session, feeling the tension in the room between the two of them, but ultimately ignoring it.

Lady Melissa didn't utter a single word until she reached the carriage.

Justin and Sophia noticed it, sparing multiple glances at each other, wondering whatever was wrong with their master.

They knew better than to interfere though, it was moments like these that Lady Melissa would prefer to be alone by herself, then to talk with someone.

So, they respected her wishes, and Lady Melissa appreciated it.
