Chapter 202 - 202

"Stay safe alright? I can't have you dying on me."

Lady Melissa said as she gave him a warm smile, as Duke Gaston returned the warm smile to her back before he went down the stairs, in a rush.

Lady Melissa was relieved to know that backup was coming, she had wanted to die a number of times and craved the feeling of death.

But she would never ever want to die in someone else's hands.

If she died, she wanted it to be by her hands, by her will, and not someone else's.

Lady Melissa went back to the room filled with nobles, as she patiently waited for backup, closing her eyes.

Only a few people were talking to each other, and it was about the concern they had for their children, husbands, wives or etc.

Lady Melissa didn't say anything, choosing to stay in silence as she felt bad for the nobles who didn't manage to say goodbye to their loved ones.

It was one thing to die, but it was another to die without being able to say your last goodbyes.

Lady Melisa regretted not being able to say her last goodbyes to a number of people, and of course she had regretted a number of things after it, that was why she was making it her goal not to regret anything in this life.

She didn't regret hitting the sniper earlier, and neither did she regret insulting Lady Yae.

Lady Melissa wanted to let out a laugh as she remembered Lady Yae's face, but she restrained herself from doing so, knowing how serious the situation currently was, and that it wasn't the time to be laughing, or smiling for that matter.

After what had seemed like hours to Lady Melissa, Duke Gaston had come back, with backup, as they all helped the nobles leave safely, making sure that each one of them was going to the carriage.

Lady Melissa had gone into her carriage, and her parents into their own individual ones, as she had only remembered about Justin and Sophia.

Lady Melissa's face panicked for a few seconds, wondering whether they had been hurt.

'They're just a bunch of maids and guards, I can replace them any day.'

Lady Melissa thought, after all, Justin and Sophia were just ONE maid and ONE guard, it wouldn't be hard for her to find a replacement, nonetheless she was still worried about them, even if she didn't show it.

Lady Melissa spotted Justin and Sophia at the corner of heer eye as they both spotted her as well, Sophia cheerfully running to Lady Melissa.

"Are you alright Lady Melissa?"

Sophia asked as Lady Melissa nodded her head.

"I'm sorry for not being able to protect you, Lady Melissa, I understand if you want to fire m-"

Justin said before Lady Melissa interrupted him.

"Only the royal palace's guards were allowed inside, and nobles only too, you're not getting fired (thank you for coming to my ted talk)."

Lady Melissa casually said to Justin as she saw his eyes immediately turn grateful.

"Thank you, Lady Melissa, I promise not to let anyone lay a single scratch on you."

Justin said as he bowed down.

"That's what I hired you for right? Make sure to protect me properly or else you'll get fired."

Lady Melissa said, as she threw a peace sign and entered her carriage, Sophia and Justin soon did the same.

Lady Melissa was inside the carriage, just wondering how much of a mess things had been, never even in her dreams would she think of things to turn out this way.

She had never expected things to turn out this way, though she was quite impressed with how calm Duke Gaston was, even under the pressure.

Though that was a given, it probably wasn't his first time dealing with an assassination attempt for the King, and Lady Melissa was sure that it wouldn't be his last as long as he worked for the royal palace.

Lady Melissa wondered how things would be without the King, it would be hard for things to be 'normal' or how 'they used to be' and the Crown Prince would need some time to adjust into being the King.

There was no doubt that there was going to be a very long list of nobles and peasants who were both not going to be pleased with the fact that the Crown Prince was going to be the King.

Lady Melissa needed some time to just process everything that had happened, as she took a deep breath, it was just unbelievable the number of things that had happened, in the span of less than four hours.

It was just hard to process-, how quickly things had happened and how many things had happened within that time, though one thing was for certain, she was going to send Lady Whistledown a letter, and meet Duchess Ella, knowing her condition, the Duchess probably wouldn't be able to teach Lady Melissa swordsmanship for the next few days, or weeks if the wound had been that horrible.

Lady Melissa knew that Duchess Ella would keep insisting that she was fine though and that she could do her swordsmanship lessons.

Duchess Ella was an extremely stubborn Lady when she wanted to be, maybe even more stubborn than Lady Melisa.

Lady Melissa's mind then trailed off to Duke Mason, she hadn't seen him at all during the assassination attempt, she wondered whether he was safe or not.

Lady Melissa shook her head, why should SHE worry whether he was safe of all people? Instead, he should be doing that to her.

Lady Melisa did secretly hope that he was safe somewhere in her heart, not wanting him to be hurt, or injured.

This time, the assassination attempt was different than the one in her previous life, it was more chaotic in this one, and Duchess Ella hadn't been shot, no one had been.

Luckily, there was only one casualty this time, and the one casualty didn't die, so it wasn't bad.
