In fact, Lady Melissa had never actually gotten an audience with the King, and he had never talked to her privately like he did during the hunting event. What changed? Perhaps it was the rumours about Lady Melissa.
In her past life, nobody was keen to find out about her since she didn't even have her debute ball, and she was seen as a shy girl, which she used to be, one that couldn't stand up for herself, which was a perfect target for bullies.
In addition to that, she was a member of the founding family so it'd be understandable if the King had wanted to learn more and more about her- but he had never done so in her past life.
Which was why she begged the question, why did the King even want to learn more about her?
It was an advantage to her of course, if she was favoured by the King, but it was hard for her to put on a smile every time she would meet him because of how much she resented him.
He was a part of the reason why the Crown Prince was who he was today, and he was also part of the reason why so many peasants were suffering, Lady Melissa had seen the King use so many peasants and take their money for his own benefit.
Lady Melissa just hoped that whoever was the next King or Queen could change that.
Speaking of the Queen, Lady Melissa didn't have many memories of her, she didn't talk much and she only appeared in important events, and seeing that she didn't attend the hunting event this year, or in Lady Melissa's past life as well, the Queen probably didn't see it as an important event.
Lady Melissa had only seen the Queen a total of one or two times in the entirety of her previous life, and this one combined; even the public rarely saw her.
However, the one that the public would saw often was Concubine Beatrice- a peasant who used to be a slave and the King had so graciously bought her, and she seduced him and ended up becoming his favourite concubine; some might even say he favoured her more than the Queen with the number of times she'd appear in public.
Lady Melissa didn't care though, and she never had many experiences with Concubine Beatrice either, though she did wonder why the King needed so many concubines.
With the amount of time he had visiting each of his concubines monthly, he could be using it to make things better, but instead, he'd much rather spend it on making love with his multiple concubines.
Lady Melissa couldn't help but admit that Concubine Beatrice was pretty though, but the Queen was a whole different matter, she was elegant in which Concubine Beatrice was not.
There were even multiple incidents in the past where Lady Melissa had genuinely wondered if Concubine Beatrice knew manners or she was perhaps acting dumb and clueless.
It irritated her to death with how Concubine Beatrice would act; so clueless and such.
The Queen took care of everything, yet all the love went to Concubine Beatrice who would just spend the day making love and interrupting the King for affection and such; she was the only one he couldn't say no to.
Lady Melissa had obviously found it unfair- which was why if she did decide to have a romantic relationship with someone in the future, she'd make sure that the man was decent.
A man who could understand her struggles and help her out, respect her, and be loyal to her. She didn't need him to tell her all his secrets since she didn't need to know all of a person's secrets to trust them.
Heck she was sure that even if she did have a romantic relationship with a man she wouldn't tell him all of her secrets, such as the fact that this was her second chance at life.
Lady Melissa wouldn't be able to let her guard down even if she had a romantic partner- well at least at the start of the relationship she wouldn't be able to let it down.
Perhaps even after their relationship had lasted longer she'd still have difficulty in letting her guard down with everything that had happened to her and the Crown Prince.
It wasn't exactly easy per se to forget the memories and the incidents that had happened, especially when someone else came into the spotlight, but Lady Melissa would be more than willing to give it a try.
That is after she had taken down the Crown Prince, perhaps she had some feelings harbouring deep inside her that she didn't want to admit, but she was content with how things were right now, and she certainly didn't need a man to ruin it.
Lady Melissa had enough of men ruining things for her, and how most men felt entitled to certain things.
Lady Melissa wondered if the King wouldn't let her have an audience with him then perhaps she should talk to the Queen instead- which was her first option before she decided that she'd just talk to the King.
Besides, if she did go to the royal palace she didn't have to go through all that trouble of learning a new spell and using a sizable amount of her blood for the carrier pigeon and such.
And she'd be able to give Duke Alphonso the letter herself, though she'd need to quickly write both Duke Gaston and Duke Mason a letter to ask about the times that they were available.
She'd be killing two birds with one stone since she'd try to meet Camilia, and they would somehow 'accidentally' bump into each other or so.
She was planning for the four of them to meet up. By the latest, this Sunday, she wanted all of them to meet each other by the end of the week at the latest.
And if even the Queen didn't answer her letter, she decided that she'd send one out to Concubine Beatrice as well, and she was sure that the Concubine Beatrice would instantly send her back a response.
