A day had passed- and Lady Melissa still hadn't received any sort of letter from Duke Gaston, and within a few hours, she was going to be donating to a charity.
Lady Melissa was a bit nervous- she didn't want to scare off any of the children that just so happened to be there, in addition to that she was bringing all of her bodyguards along with her.
If she was a normal child she would've been scared of them, since all of them had stoic faces as well, which Lady Melissa had ended up learning about- not that she minded of course.
Lady Melissa wasn't planning on telling everyone that she was going to be donating to a charity- but she knew somehow that they would find out and report it in the newspapers.
She had thought of the idea of giving an anonymous tip, but she knew that it would seem suspicious, so she decided against it, just in case, though of course, people were going to twist the story.
Lady Melissa just decided that donating would be beneficial to both her and the children, she'd be able to give a good impression to the public, and other nobles, and the children would be able to get better supplies.
Lady Melissa knew not to wear something too fancy, since the place wasn't exactly the cleanest, given the fact that they were short on money, Lady Melissa hoped that the money she was donating would get them a better environment the children were surrounded in.
Lady Melissa knew the disadvantages of growing up in a dirty environment, the main one being that the children would most likely grow up unhygienic, and it would harm their health.
Lady Melissa had already done previous research on the charity of course, and she had already made sure that the charity cared for the children's well being, but she couldn't help herself from overthinking.
It was as if overthinking was a part of her daily life, that she couldn't help but do it every day 24/7, it was her second nature basically now.
However, if Lady Melissa found out that the charity was keeping the money for themselves- especially after all the research she had done on them, she was more than ready to raise hell on them.
"I don't think you need to put any makeup on me, Sophia, I think that I'm perfect just the way I am right now."
Lady Melissa said with a smile on her face as Sophia let out a whine, though she understood where Lady Melissa was coming from with the fact that they were visiting a charity, and not a ball or event.
Sophia, herself was a peasant and she grew up in a poor neighbourhood, but that wouldn't be able to compare to the charity, her family at least had enough money to get through the day.
"Will that be all then Lady Melissa?"
Sophia asked as Lady Melissa nodded her head, leaving Lady Melissa temporarily alone in her room.
"Come out."
Lady Melissa said she had heard the presence of a man, even after how hard he had tried to hide it.
"Duke Gaston?"
Lady Melissa said, as her sentence sounded like a question, as she raised her eyebrows, she had expected it to be either Duke Mason or one of his guild members to be spying on her.
"May I come in?"
Duke Gaston politely asked as Lady Melissa opened her windows, letting him in, as she maintained eye contact with him. She had never expected him to be the type of man to sneak into a woman's window to see her, though she shouldn't judge.
Lady Melissa quickly locked the door before she started to talk to Duke Gaston.
"Get in now."
Lady Melissa coldly said as her sentence sounded like an order, not like she minded though, it'd be better if Duke Gaston was intimidated by her.
Lady Melissa stayed silent as Duke Gaston did the same thing, each of them waiting for one another to break the silence and start a conversation. Lady Melissa didn't want to be the one to do so-reasonably so, she kept waiting for Duke Gaston to do so.
"I guess I should start with an apology, Lady Melissa, I'm sorry for breaking into your window to see you."
Duke Gaston said as he bowed his head down, hoping that Lady Melissa would forgive him, he knew that it was wrong, but nonetheless, he was that desperate to see her he decided to just- see her, and he was planning to use the letter as an excuse for him to see her.
"What did you come for?"
Lady Melissa asked as she let out a sigh after hearing Duke Gaston's poor attempt at an apology, though to be completely fair, it did sound genuine with how sad Duke Gaston looked.
Lady Melissa already knew the answer that Duke Gaston was going to give her- nonetheless she still asked him the question.
"I came here to give you my answer when I was available, I wanted to give you a letter but I thought that you might not be at home so I came here and if you weren't present, I would go back."
Duke Mason sheepishly said as he rubbed the back of his neck, giving Lady Melissa a smile hoping that she would believe his poor attempt at an excuse.
Lady Melissa glanced at him momentarily, before she let out a sigh, she knew that it was a lie because first of all, Duke Gaston looked nervous whilst saying it, and second of all he couldn't even make eye contact with Lady Melissa when he said his excuse.
Lady Melissa decided that it wouldn't hurt for her to buy his excuse though, as she quickly changed her expression, making him believe that she had actually bought his excuse, lighting up a small smile on his face.
"So? When are you available?"
Lady Melissa aggressively said, not meaning for her question to come out that way, though it was no use crying over spilt milk anymore.
