Chapter 229 - 229

"Not even a greeting? Rude. Consider this a warning since it's just your first day on the job, act disrespectful to me and I'll fire you."

Lady Melissa harshly said as she dismissed Nathan's question, she wasn't inclined to answer him, and he needed to be reminded of his position, he was below her, and he should listen to her orders.

Nathan should know better than to ask questions, and instead just nod his head and follow Lady Melissa around, like how Justin was nowadays, he didn't ask her questions anymore, and although Sophia did ask questions, she knew when not to ask.

Sophia knew whether it was the right time or not to ask questions, and she could tell the mood just by Lady Melissa's expression, although it was usually stoic, knowing when to ask and not.

She had already picked up on reading Lady Melissa's emotions, after all, how could she not with the fact that she was Lady Melissa's personal maid? She had to learn everything about Lady Melissa.

Be it her favourite food, her favourite pastime, and even her favourite pen and the favourite brand of paper she would like to use when writing letters or sending letters out to other nobles.

Nathan was left speechless, he had forgotten his manners as he wanted to slap himself in the face, he was already being disrespectful by asking Lady Melissa about who the person was, but he was being even more disrespectful by not even greeting her, though he considered her merciful to other nobles who would cut their employee's body parts if they had forgotten to greet their master.

Lady Melissa proceeded to go back to her desk as she glanced at the time, Sophia was supposed to knock on her door and tell her when the carriage was ready, and she was going to be having a separate carriage from Sophia.

Sophia was going to be sitting with one of Lady Melissa's bodyguards, she wasn't sure which one it was since she hadn't memorised their shifts, but she knew for sure that it wasn't either Justin or Nathan.

As if on cue, there was a knock on the door as Lady Melissa quickly told the person to come in and as luck would have it, it was Sophia, and she had come to tell Lady Melissa the carriage was ready.

Nathan wanted to apologise to his master, but he was too late, she had already left the moment Sophia had come in and told her that the carriage was ready, admittedly he felt guilty.

Though he was secretly more worried about the fact that there was a huge possibility that his pay would be cut- and when he had finally gotten a job that paid well too, Nathan let out a sigh, he had screwed up once more, this time it was big though.

Nathan decided whilst his master would be busy- with the orphanage, he'd have a few hours to make a proper apology to her and apologize to her once she had reached back to the Shayla estate after she had finished going to the orphanage.

Which he had learned about while eavesdropping on Lady Melissa's conversation with the man. Truth be told, Lady Melissa knew that there was someone behind the door, but she decided that she'd give whoever it was a warning.

She was sure that Duke Gaston had sensed the presence as well, after all, he was watching the scene unfold in front of his eyes from one of Lady Melissa's trees near the window.

She could still feel a pair of eyes staring at her and watching her every move whilst she was talking to Nathan, and she had no doubt that the pair of eyes belonged to Duke Gaston.

Lady Melissa made her way down the stairs as she made sure not to go too fast, not wanting to fall and end up injuring her face or any of her body parts for that matter when she had an orphanage to get to.

Soon enough, Lady Melissa exited the doors, of course, they were held up by the numerous maids and servants who bowed their heads down whilst Lady Melissa exited the door.

Sophia quickly opened the carriage door as Lady Melissa made her way inside before she quickly closed it and went to her own carriage door, where one of Lady Melissa's bodyguards was already sitting inside.

'Is this one of Lady Melissa's new bodyguards? I think so, I escorted her the other day to Lady Melissa's room if I'm not wrong.'

Sophia thought to herself as she started spacing out, while Clara simply stared blankly at her, wondering what Sophia was thinking about, and neither one of them decided to break the silence.

Sophia realized that she had spaced out, as she greeted and introduced herself before Clara did the same, and she asked her a couple of questions, just to make sure that she was one of Lady Melissa's bodyguards.

Questions that could only be answered if the bodyguard was truly an employee of Lady Melissa's, Sophia simply wanted to make sure the bodyguard wasn't a threat to Lady Melissa or anyone else for that matter.

Meanwhile, Lady Melissa was patiently waiting for the carriage to reach the orphanage, it would take around an hour to an hour and a half for her to reach the orphanage.

She had already discussed it beforehand with the director, just in case anything were to happen when she was going to be donating, the director knew that she was going to be donating, but she didn't know that it was going to be money.

Lady Melissa had already told the director that she was going to be giving the orphanage some things, which wasn't a lie since she was giving some of the dresses that didn't fit her anymore.

Luckily, she hadn't gotten rid of all of the dresses that didn't fit her anymore, and she knew that there would be a couple of orphans that would be happy to wear her dress, so she decided that she'd donate it to the orphanage.
