It wouldn't hurt for Lady Melissa to do a little bit of kindness right? She had sold most of them anyway, and she wanted to see their delighted faces seeing the dress, which was of course custom made.
Lady Melissa had also donated some jewellery- of course, she made sure not to donate any family heirlooms or such, but she knew how important a debute was, especially to society.
A woman's debute to society wasn't something to belittle, and Lady Melissa had found out about it in her second life, it was more than it led on, and it was when society would finally deem a girl, a young woman.
Lady Melissa wanted the girls to be able to have a debut ball if that was possible, and some nice jewellery and clothes for them to wear, she didn't want them to be looked down on by others just because of their appearance.
As much as Lady Melissa just wanted to go and say that it didn't matter, she knew that if she said that it was a complete lie, appearances did matter, especially when it came to first impressions.
People were so quick to judge based on a person's clothing and appearance, and Lady Melissa hated the fact that even sometimes, she was one of the people who still did that, unconsciously of course,
As much as she had tried to convince and lie to herself that she didn't, she knew that deep down, she was also one of them, though she tried her best not to judge people based on their appearance, clothing and jewellery.
Soon enough, Lady Melissa's carriage had come to a halt, as Lady Melissa opened her carriage door, letting out a sigh, she could do this, she believed in herself, besides it wasn't as if the kids were going to hate her, right?
Lady Melissa had already gone to the orphanage multiple times in the past before just to check up on it from time to time, some of the visits being unannounced so the directors wouldn't be able to hide anything since her visit would be unannounced.
Though she made sure that any of the children hadn't spotted her, she wanted it to be a surprise to them.
Lady Melissa was greeted by the director, who had a smile on his face, along with his wife who had helped take care of the orphanage with him. Lady Melissa greeted them back of course.
The least she could give them was respect, although she knew that she didn't have to greet them because of her status, she knew how hard it was to take care of children, well she didn't know it based on experience.
But she was sure that her parents had a hard time dealing with her when she was a child, nonetheless with dozens of children ranging from five years old to fifteen years old.
Lady Melissa couldn't imagine the amount of stress that the both of them had to put up on a daily basis, but she was sure that they enjoyed their job by how they looked at the children.
She knew that they loved them- and that they genuinely cared for the children, which was why she wanted to donate to this orphanage, one that wouldn't take her money and use it for their own greed- at least she hoped that they wouldn't.
They were a nice, friendly, polite couple, one that Lady Melissa genuinely enjoyed their company, though she didn't have much time to visit them often since she was still a Lady, a Lady of the Shayla estate no less.
"Do they know that I'm visiting them?"
Lady Melissa curiously asked the couple, wondering whether the children knew that someone was going to visit them- more specifically, Lady Melissa was going to visit them.
The director shook his head as Lady Melissa put on a smile, wondering how the children would react seeing her.
"Please come inside."
The director's wife said, as Lady Melissa nodded her head, making her way inside, she had already prepared a cheque beforehand for the orphanage since she didn't want the money to get lost.
And she knew that it would be a hassle if she just gave them all the gold coins in cash, so she decided that a cheque would suffice instead, with her name and the orphanage's on the cheque.
"Here's the cheque."
Lady Melissa casually said, as she slowly handed over the cheque to the director and his wife, who gratefully accepted it, and bowed their heads down in gratitude to Lady Melissa's kindness.
Lady Melissa handed it slowly just in case there was anyone following her.
"Thank you."
The director and his wife said in unison as Lady Melissa nodded her head, not saying anything as the director quickly got up to offer Lady Melissa some food, which Lady Melissa had politely said no to.
The both of them were secretly nervous, they didn't want to accidentally offend her and cause her to take back the cheque and do something to the both of them, although they knew that Lady Melissa was someone kind.
At least Lady Melissa seemed as if she was kind, but they couldn't help but be intimidated by her because of the amount of power she had, and how easily she could make their lives a living nightmare.
"Do you want to see the children now?"
The director's wife said as she spoke up, breaking the silence between the three of them as Lady Melissa slowly nodded her head, she had only watched the children from afar before.
Lady Melissa entered the room, filled with children, as a few of them recognized who she was, some of them shooting dirty looks at her, while others enthusiastically looked at her, some others though were afraid of her- because of her looks, at least Lady Melissa assumed so.
"This is Lady Melissa, and she's given us a donation, and so because of that donation, all of you will be getting better food and clothes! , thank her."
The director bluntly said to the children, as Lady Melissa wondered if some of them could even understand what he was saying, after all, the orphanage didn't have enough money to afford education.
