"Everybody always lies."
The child said, her tone sounding sad as Lady Melissa finally understood what she had meant- she had probably lied to multiple times, and her guess was from the orphans in the orphanage.
Probably a promise saying that they would return and see her, but they never did, and the director and his wife probably promised her that one day they'd come back and see her.
"I agree."
Lady Melissa said, as the child was a little surprised, she hadn't expected Lady Melissa to agree with her, she had expected her to lie to her once more and say that people don't lie.
After all, it was what the other kids and grown-ups would say to her.
The child turned her back, as she finally looked at Lady Melissa, whose eyes widened a bit, in surprise, not expecting for the child to finally look at her.
"Go, what are you waiting for? You promised."
The child said as Lady Melissa nodded her head, signalling for Clara and Sophia to go along with her as she made her way to the carriage, flashing a smile to the child before doing so.
"I'm going this time, but I'll see you next time."
Lady Melissa said as she sent the child a wink, she wasn't lying, after all, she indeed was going back to the carriage, though she didn't promise that she'd be going away from the orphanage forever.
Out of the corner of her eye, Lady Melissa could see the girl smiling a bit, though it wasn't clear since she was far away from the child, Lady Melissa did plan on keeping the promise though.
She was determined to make the child like her- even with her hectic schedule, at least she wouldn't be bored now. Though her hectic schedule would be more hectic now with the promise she made to the child.
Lady Melissa had just realized she had forgotten to ask the name of the child, but she quickly brushed it off, she decided that she'd ask the child her name on her next visit, Lady Melissa knew she could always just ask the director or his wife, but she wanted to learn her name on her own, and not by someone's help.
She wanted to earn the child's trust on her own, and not through someone else, Lady Melissa was excited to learn more about the child- perhaps this could be the start of a mother-daughter relationship.
Sophia and Clara_ watched Lady Melissa from behind, as they were filled with their own thoughts, the both of them knew that if the director and his wife had interrupted Lady Melissa, she would get irritated.
Lady Melissa and irritation were two things that didn't go well together, neither did Lady Melissa and anger go well together, though Lady Melissa's angry side didn't come out that often.
Most of the time she was just advising or warning the employees, and even that tone was enough to send them shivers, making most, if not all the employees that Lady Melissa warned before, think that she was scolding them.
Just as Lady Melissa was about to get in the carriage, she heard heavy footsteps and some heavy breathing as she turned her head around, spotting the director and his wife running to her.
"I- hah- apologize- hah- for- the girl just now-hah-."
The director said as he bowed his head down, afraid of what Lady Melissa was going to do to the orphanage, orphans, and him and his wife, or what she could do anyways.
"What for?"
Lady Melissa asked as she stared at the director, who was trying to catch his breath as she furrowed her eyebrows, wondering why the director even needed to apologize for the girl.
The director stared at Lady Melissa for a few seconds, surprised and wondering whether perhaps this was a trap by her- and if he agreed, he would be in trouble.
"For the girl just now, I'll punish her later on for acting this way, please don't inflict any harm upon us."
The director said, as he got on his knees, and begged for Lady Melissa not to do any sort of harm to him, his wife, the orphanage or to any of the orphans- specifically the girl earlier.
"Get up."
Lady Melissa coldly said as the director immediately stood up, his body shivering as he was afraid- afraid of what was to happen to him, his wife, and to the orphans, how were they going to be able to live without him?
What would happen to them if he disappeared? Numerous thoughts filled his head, worried of what was going to happen to the orphans and to his wife if he disappeared.
The director closed his eyes- waiting for some kind of harm to happen to him, mainly to his neck, but after a few seconds of waiting, he opened his eyes, surprised that nothing had happened to him yet.
"Don't worry, I'm not killing you."
Lady Melissa bluntly said as the director started to sweat, he knew that she had said it as a way of trying to comfort him- but for some reason, it had made him more scared of her.
"I'll go now, take care of the orphans for me, I'll be visiting soon. Goodbye."
Lady Melissa said, as she entered her carriage, Sophia and Clara entered their carriage as well, after Lady Melissa had entered hers.
The director and his wife were left speechless in the dust as Lady Melissa's carriage had already started moving- the both of them weren't quick enough to react to Lady Melissa's goodbye.
'I hope that was a good enough show for him.'
Lady Melissa thought, still feeling the pair of eyes of Duke Gaston's from her very own carriage, even whilst it was moving, and during the orphanage, she had never felt the pair of eyes disappear from her figure.
Duke Gaston had realized that perhaps he was right by following Lady Melissa, and perhaps she did actually care for the orphans and weren't doing it for fame and recognition.
