Lady Melissa stood up from her desk, there was no doubt that her parents had already heard the news by now, as she exited her room, Nathan followed behind her as she planned to go to her parent's room.
Lady Melissa knocked on the door, as she could hear one of her parent's mumble the words "Come in" though she wasn't sure which one of them it was since she wasn't able to hear the voice clearly.
Nonetheless, Lady Melissa came inside, as she signalled Nathan to wait outside, this wasn't going to take long anyways.
"Good Afternoon Mother and Father, I have something I need to talk to you about."
Lady Melissa said, a polite smile on her face as she bowed down to both of her parents, as they momentarily shared a look with each other.
"Go on."
The Duchess said as Lady Melissa did so, following her mother's orders.
"I've been given an audience by the King."
Lady Melissa said, as her parents didn't react in any way or form.
"Are you sure it's from the King?"
Was the Duke's first response to Lady Melissa's words.
Lady Melissa was irritated, did her father take her for some stupid girl?
There was even the royal palace's seal on it- one that was so complex that it would be hard to mimic, but she let out a sigh, the one who had even delivered it to her was Derreck- and she trusted Derreck, maybe even more than the people who were in front of her right now.
Nonetheless, Lady Melissa's stoic demeanour didn't change one single bit as she maintained her calm composure, acting as if she wasn't affected by her father's question before she answered it gracefully.
"It's from the King father, there was the royal palace's seal, and Derreck was the one who had sent the letter to me."
Lady Melissa said, calmly explaining to her father who widened his eyes- not believing that his daughter was given an audience with the King, alone.
"Actually, that's what I came here for, my audience with the King is in a few hours from now, and I was going to ask permission whether I can go."
Lady Melissa said, as the Duke and Duchess momentarily stared at each other, pondering at what to do before the both of them shook their heads in unison- almost as if they had agreed on something.
"We'll go with you."
The Duke said as Lady Melissa stayed silent, she hadn't wanted her father- or any of her parents for the matter to go with her, besides it was HER who had requested an audience from the King, and it was HER who had been granted one by the King, not her father, or any of her parents, or anyone else for that matter.
"Excuse me father and mother, but I believe that the King would be enraged if the both of you come by unannounced since he had only given me an audience with him."
Lady Melissa said, politely, hoping that they would change their minds about the whole thing.
"No."
The Duke calmly said as Lady Melissa resisted the urge to let out a scoff- how was she able to find out more about Camilia and the Crown Prince if she couldn't even visit the royal palace?
What was she supposed to do? Sneak inside? The royal palace's security had been tightened 10x after the assassination attempt that had occurred in the last few days, just in case anyone had dared to make another assassination attempt on the King.
"Father, although we are one of the founding families, the King has much more power than any of us, and I'm afraid of what he'd do if we disrespect him like this."
Lady Melissa said, putting on an afraid look to top it all off, knowing that without a doubt- her parents would be worried just in case the King would do such a thing.
The Duke and the Duchess stayed silent for a while- as they gave each other a glance, not saying anything as they shared a look to each other.
The Duke let out a sigh, he didn't want his daughter to meet the King alone, but he didn't want any chances of facing the King's wrath, even he knew that the King was a piece of garbage- though he'd never admit it out loud.
In fear of being found out by the King.
Lady Melissa wanted to scoff at how her father was all bark and no bite- though it'd be a complete lie if she said she wasn't amused with what was happening in front of her.
The Duke let out another sigh- she had assumed that her parents had just finished making their decisions since they had nodded their heads at each other.
Her parents would do that a lot when they needed to make important decisions but couldn't argue about it in front of Lady Melissa.
This was one of the times- Lady Melissa would never be able to understand how they were able to communicate with each other by using their eyes, nodding their heads and raising their eyebrows, not even using a single word to communicate with each other during the whole time.
"Fine, you'll be meeting the King alone, but the both of us will help accompany you to the royal palace, alright?"
The Duke said, asking Lady Melissa if that was alright, Lady Melissa knew that her opinion didn't matter at all-it never did, at least to her parents.
Even if she said no, her parents would force themselves to accompany her- or threaten her somehow to say yes to the decision, with the past few days she had been starting to be more aware of how her parents manipulated her- acting as if she had free will and could make all her decisions, but in reality, she couldn't.
Lady Melissa was just planning for the perfect opportunity to strike down her parents- which hopefully wasn't going to be long from now on.
