"Alright."
Lady Melissa blankly said, as she stared at her parents who nodded their heads in unison before her mother spoke up finally saying something.
"Now that that's figured out, get ready Melissa, a trip to the palace requires you to be on your best behaviour, and don't forget to look pretty."
The Duchess said, using her fan as she hid the smile on her face, though it was still quite visible.
"Don't worry mama, I'll make sure to be on my best behaviour, I have to excuse myself now if you don't mind? Goodbye mama and papa, I'll see you later."
Lady Melissa said, a polite smile on her face, as she said goodbye to her parents before they could even answer her question, excusing herself as she walked right through her parent's room.
Lady Melissa shut the door behind her as her parents were speechless- as Lady Melissa had a proud smirk on her face, not regretting a single thing she had done back there.
Lady Melissa had wished they weren't so stubborn and had allowed her to go to the palace alone- she had faced going there before once, so it wouldn't be hard for her to go through it a second time.
Though at least she guessed that this was good enough- she would be able to have a private audience with the King, with no one else in sight, except his guards standing guard outside the room, or inside.
Lady Melissa made her way back into her room, with, of course, Nathan following her footsteps, behind her.
Lady Melissa was sure that her mother had already told the maids to prepare her for her audience with the King, and as if on cue, there was a knock on the door.
Lady Melissa let out a sigh, she hadn't expected the maids to come in so early- though they wouldn't be hired if they couldn't work quickly or efficiently in the Shayla estate, since time was money, at least for her.
"Come in."
Lady Melissa said it was evident from her tone that she was irritated, Lady Melissa spotted five maids coming inside her room, including Sophia who was in front of them all, acting as if she was some sort of leader- though to a certain extent she was since she had the highest status out of all the other maids in La Melissa's room, though of course, Lady Melissa was the one who had the highest status- at least in her room.
"Good Afternoon Lady Melissa, we're here to help you with some touch-ups to your face, we hope that you don't mind."
Sophia politely said as Lady Melissa nodded her head as the other maids greeted her as well- and as soon as she gave them permission, they made quick use of the limited time they had considering that Lady Melissa was going to be meeting the King in a few hours- and have a private audience with him no less.
Lady Melissa was forced to wear high heels, as well as some heavy family heirloom jewellery across her neck, reminding her of Victoria, as she wondered where the woman was now, she was dead of course- but it did made her wonder, where did her spirit go afterwards?
Lady Melissa brushed away the topic of Victoria, it was her first time meeting someone THAT obsessed with her, though in a way she and Victoria were the same.
Both of them were obsessive in their own individual ways, and for Lady Melissa's was that she was going to kill the Crown Prince, though in her case it was a little different from Victoria's since she resented the Crown Prince, and was doing this out of revenge not love- besides she was sure she had actually lost feelings for him this time.
It didn't hurt anymore when she thought of the Crown Prince with Camilia, both of them were complete garbage who were made for each other, complete trash- ones worse than even the King himself.
Lady Melissa looked in the mirror- she found herself beautiful, of course, since she was naturally blessed with beauty and charm, but she found it useless.
Why was she even looking pretty for the King? It wasn't as if he would take her as one of his concubines or so, as Lady Melissa would rather kill herself if she was forced to be one of his concubines.
Lady Melissa stayed silent as one of the maids brushed her hair, the other trimming her nails, another one of them choosing some hair accessories that would fit Lady Melissa's dress scheme the most, another maid focused on Lady Melissa's feet, whilst Sophia was choosing one of Lady Melissa's many shoes that would go well with her dress.
Lady Melissa was going to wear a red bright dress, that would suit her red hair, her hair was going to be piut up and tied with a few of her hair accessories.
Lady Melissa took one look at her dress as she knew she was going to be in for a long day- if only the King had at least given her a day to prepare in advance, then again he was the King, and he never cared for anyone else- except for himself.
Lady Melissa knew the maids were going to overdo everything, she could already see how excited they all were, including Sophia when they had first entered her room, Lady Melissa let out a sigh, she didn't understand why she had to go through all of this when she was only meeting the King to talk to him- not to seduce him like many of the other noblewomen.
Though to be quite fair, the King had picked up multiple strays as his concubines- some of them were peasants, while some others were prostitutes, and others were famous noblewomen- at least before they had married the King.
Lady Melissa could never understand what the King was thinking, was one wife not enough for him?
