It would never be enough for the King- or most of the men for that matter.
Perhaps Lady Melissa was too close-minded to allow herself to be a man's second or third or so on's wife, but it was some sort of disrespect to her.
Lady Melissa couldn't imagine herself ever marrying a man who already had a wife when he wanted to marry her- or had another lover for that matter, it felt as if she was disrespected and her feelings weren't cared for if a man would ever propose to her when he was married.
Besides, Lady Melisssa didn't want to get any enemies, she'd need people to have a good impression on her- or at the very least, a decent one so she wouldn't be in any sort of trouble in case she needed to call in a favour in the near future.
"All done!"
One of the maids said, as she had finally finished brushing Lady Melissa's hair as she put it up, putting some diamond hair accessories on Lady Melissa's head, which were, of course, heavy, though it wasn't too heavy for Lady Melissa.
Lady Melissa didn't look that different than usual, except the fact that instead of her hair being up like usual, it was tied, hence her forehead was seen more clearly, and her face as well.
Lady Melissa couldn't help but let out a yawn, stretching out her arms and legs, when was this ever going to end? It had felt as if she had been sitting for years, and she couldn't even move most of the time in case it would accidentally lead them to make an accident.
Her nails were currently being painted as a maid had helped put on one of the Shayla estate family heirlooms on Lady Melissa's necklace, it was a white diamond, the initial S engraved on the diamond, as well on the chain.
Lady Melissa took a few moments to stare at the mirror, observing the diamond that was big and shiny, it was beautiful and Lady Melissa forgot she even had the necklace with how long her parents had given it to her.
If she wasn't wrong, she was gifted the diamond necklace by her parents around five or six years ago, it was evident from their gift alone that her parents didn't understand children, but at least for the meantime, Lady Melissa was thankful to even receive a gift from her parents.
Lady Melissa slowly closed her eyes, as she was awoken because of another nightmare she had- which was already something usual that happened on a daily basis now.
Lady Melissa slowly opened her eyes, staring at the reflection back at her as she saw that the maids were almost done.
"You're almost done?"
Lady Melissa asked, her tone sounding grumpy since she had just woken up from her nap- though it wasn't really a nap since she had another nightmare AGAIN.
"Yeah, we'll be done in around five to ten minutes."
Sophia said, as Lady Melissa nodded her head intently, she just had to survive this hell for another five to ten minutes; which seemed relatively short considering the tremendous amount of hours she had spent in this hellhole.
Five minutes soon passed- which had felt like five centuries to Lady Melissa with how slow time was ticking, at least for her.
"We're done, Lady Melissa."
Sophia said, as Lady Melissa opened her eyes, she had closed her eyes in a way to surprise herself with how she had looked- though she might've seen how she looked momentarily before in the mirror- not like she minded much though.
"Alright all of you may dismiss yourself, Sophia stay here."
Lady Melissa said, her tone sounding commanding as the maids quickly excused themselves, rushing out of Lady Melissa's room as Sophia nodded her head, approaching Lady Melissa.
"What is it, Lady Melissa?"
Sophia said, curious about whatever was the reason her master would call her for.
"You're accompanying me to the palace, I assume that you already know that fact?"
Lady Melissa asked as Sophia's eyes widened- she was going to be going to the palace, as her eyes shined, she was more than ecstatic.
"Wait, we're going to the palace?"
Sophia asked as she came to the realization of Lady Melissa's words- she hadn't known that Lady Melissa was going to be going to the royal palace- if she had known so she would've definitely put much more effort into Lady Melissa's looks, though it wasn't as if she wasn't currently pretty right now.
"Yes, did my mother not inform you?"
Lady Melissa asked Sophia, as she raised her eyebrows, she had thought of her mother to have said something to one of the maids- and for the word to spread, though it didn't matter, somehow and someway news that Lady Melissa had gotten a private audience with the King was going to spread.
"No."
Sophia said as she furrowed her eyebrows.
"She only said that you were going to go to some grand party and to try our best to look better."
Sophia said as Lady Melissa didn't react at all, her face stoic.
Perhaps she should've expected her mother to do such a thing, as she brushed the whole thing off, who cared?
Not her for sure.
"Well, now you know that you're going to go to the royal palace with me, oh and tell Justin to come here, you're excused."
Lady Melissa casually said as Sophia let out a blush at the mention of Justin's name, an action which hadn't gone unnoticed by Lady Melissa.
Lady Melissa let out a smirk, as she could feel Nathan's stares on her, perhaps she was enjoying the drama that was unfolding right in front of her eyes- as she intentionally or unintentionally was provoking Nathan, and he couldn't say or even do a single thing about it, perhaps Lady Melissa was a sadist- or she was just an annoying boss- or both, not like she cared that much though.
