Chapter 254 - 254

Lady Melissa let out a sigh once she was inside of the carriage- she honestly didn't even know why she still had expectations from her parents when they weren't even doing the bare minimum, perhaps it was because of that little hope she had in her heart- that one day they'd all be some sort of happy family and not a dysfunctional one instead.

With every day that passed, Lady Melissa grew more and more convinced that her parents didn't genuinely care for her, or technically that was the usual typical noble family, a set of parents who pretended they cared in front of the public and the media- but behind closed doors, it was all a set up.

It was disappointing for Lady Melissa, knowing that the vast majority of families filled with nobles did this- acting so perfect for the media and the public, but they would act the complete opposite behind closed doors.

Lady Melissa just wondered how dysfunctional society was, what even was society? It was just people judging each other- and there were even rules from society, and at this point she just considered society to be a person, rather than a group of people.

Since Lady Melissa was sure that a group of people- no thousands of people would agree with what they were actually saying, it was just so they wouldn't be looked down on amongst others, a fear of being judged.

Lady Melissa wondered if one day perhaps the word 'society' could change- and instead of a person, it would be a group of people being able to say their own opinions without any sort of judgement or looks of disapproval from others.

Truth be told, if Lady Melissa was being honest- it sounded like a dream, something that would never be a reality, which was probably true, but if it did happen one day, she'd love to see it, to see the growth of a society.

Until then though. Lady Melissa was still going to keep her goals focused- and focused on staying alive, as well as finding more about Camilia, or should she say Lady Camilia?

Lady Melissa was going to cancel her plans for tomorrow as well, seeing that she was going to visit the royal palace for the King to sign his part of the contract- though it was going to take some time since she'd only be preparing for it now.

Lady Melissa hadn't prepared for the contract yet since she wasn't one hundred percent sure that the King would heed her demands- though Lady Melissa was sure that the King was probably going to have the contract drawn up by one of the royal family's lawyers or so.

Though just in case the King didn't do that, Lady Melissa was going to ask one of the many Shayla estate lawyer's to draw out her contract with the King, and she was going to bring it with her in a briefcase tomorrow.

That wasn't that big of a problem to Lady Melissa though, at least not for the meantime- she needed to focus on getting home, considering the fact that she was pretty far from home, and that it was nighttime.

Meaning that the roads were less clear, and that Lady Melissa had a higher chance of being ambushed- or something bad and ominous happening to her since it would be harder for people to spot others during the nighttime.

The driver was of course using a flashlight, not wanting to accidentally hit something, or more specifically for his horse to hit something and cause a whole accident for Lady Melissa as well as for the others.

Lady Melissa hadn't communicated much with Justin and Sophia during this trip she had between the both of them- though she could've sworn that Justin and Sophia looked as if they were going to make out, not like it truly mattered to her of course.

When Lady Melissa spotted them, they were standing beside each other, their arms although not intertwined were at an awfully close distance from each other- though that quickly disappeared the moment that they had spotted Lady Melissa.

Perhaps it was because they were still in that first few weeks of dating awkward phase, which was probably why they were acting awkward and shy around each other, as well as weird, though, after a few more weeks or months of dating, the awkward phase was going to be replaced with the comfortable phase, where the both of them would be comfortable to show their most vulnerable states to their partners.

Lady Melissa was a little bit of a dating expert, at least she found herself to be one, even though the only relationship that she had ever been in technically was with the Crown Prince, though she did have multiple crushes.

Lady Melissa had an awkward stage with the Crown Prince too though the Crown Prince had never been acting awkward with her, it was just mostly her being awkward and shy around him since it had been the first week or so that she confessed her love for him.

After that first week though, that love- that was so pure and sickeningly sweet, would grow into something more sinister- a yearning, a craving for affection and to be loved- at least she thought she was loved by him.

Lady Melissa made her way inside the Shayla estate, being greeted by the numerous maids and servants who were all bowing their heads down in unison, whilst Derreck held open the door for her.

Lady Melissa went upstairs, into her room, she needed some time to figure out everything that had just happened today, since it was quite a lot to take in- she hadn't expected to have a chat with the Queen whilst she had a private audience with the King, nonetheless on the same day.

Lady Melissa did expect that the Queen would talk to her someday, but she hadn't expected that day to be today, just a few hours ago, and neither did she expect that she'd actually have an encounter with Lady Camilia, at least not today.
