254 You Really Are A Very Compatible Couple

James looked at her with more confusion.

"I could have said those words in a gentler manner. I could have told you that mother died in a better way than telling you that your wait will never be over."

James opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out.

"But I chose to hurt you because deep inside…" she started speaking with difficulty.

Yes she had indeed thought of it as them being strangers to one another. As them only meeting now and maybe in the future their relationship will become better.

When she heard him say that he just waited, something else clicked within her.

She blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall at the same time clearing her throat.

"Because deep inside I actually hated you and hearing you say that you just waited, it became even more obvious to me what I feel towards you."

She could see the pain that crossed James eyes.

"I had the subconscious thought, if you just didn't said those words. If you just told her that she could come home whenever she wants. Then maybe, maybe…"

She finally choked, Ashton's words made her accept her ugliness.

Yes this was her ugliness she tried to cover up with indifference.

She never blamed anyone with anything other than the Price Empire but that doesn't mean she never felt this way.

She never felt like blaming her mother's family. She never felt like blaming their fate. She never felt like blaming God for what they had experienced.

These are the ugliness she didn't want to face until this day that she was finally facing her mother's father. Her grandfather.

"I couldn't stop myself from blaming you, we had to use a promise in order to go to the Wright Empire, for they were also an Empire. They couldn't just absorb people from another Empire.

"Sir Gideon didn't know where Jasmine Sarah Scott was until he met me and found out of their tragic death. That's why I am blaming you, because if you didn't said those words then maybe we have more confidence in entering this Empire because of your connection."

Even Xander and Timothy stared at her in shock, she never showed this to them. Maybe because what she felt towards them was guilt that they never knew she felt this way.

Amber sniffed, she could no longer stopped her tears, "I am this ugly after all. I subconsciously- no, it was no longer in my sub consciousness. I actually knew I have this feeling yet I still want to fulfill my mothers wish."

"I'm sorry for being such a person," she bowed her head and said in the sincerest voice she had ever used.

James tears that just stopped started falling again as he stood up and walked toward her.

His first words were said in a choked voice.

"I'm sorry that you have to experience all of those. I'm sorry I was not a grandfather to you, to the three of you. I'm sorry my child."

He would have felt different if she were just to accept him, something wouldn't feel right on him.

And now he knew why he had been feeling this way since a while ago.

It is because what she showed was not her true feelings, she haven't said what she truly wanted to say.

Xander and Timothy looked at each other and both their eyes were saying the same thing, 'They truly still didn't know who Amber Wood is.'

But they also knew that even if that is the case, she was still Nathalie Price and at the very least there is one person who understood both Amber Wood and Nathalie Price.

This fact is already more than enough for the two of them.

"You really are a very compatible couple," James said looking behind Amber where the door was.

Ashton just nodded.

"That's why," Amber once again spoke as she moved away from James.

"Please walk me down the aisle on our wedding," she said looking up at him.

James eyes widened in shock, she had been talking about her mother's wish and he could only hear it, he haven't registered what she meant by it.

"Please," Amber once again said.

James became emotional again, "If I suffice with such an important role then I would willingly walk you down the aisle."

Amber smiled genuinely towards him, "I think my father and mother would love the idea of you walking me down the aisle."

*****

Amber was sitting on the bed while hugging her knees, she had already changed and was ready to sleep.

Ashton who just finished his bath walked to her and sat down beside her.

"What is it?" he asked.

"We really are harsh to one another, aren't we?" she looked up at him and said with a bitter smile.

Earlier this day, she had shown him how lacking he was as someone aspiring to become a ruler of the underworld.

Yet only an hour or so later, he had shown her another side of her that she really didn't to face.

"If we are too soft to one another, then everything would be too good to be true," Ashton answered.

"Sometimes in a relationship, it is not about how you uplift one another or how you accept the shortcoming of the other. Sometimes it is about pointing out what they lack and help them accept every side of their being."

Amber looked at him and this time her smile was no longer a bitter one, "I am wondering about the words you said. What if we didn't meet, what if Madison was not kidnapped?"

"What if our family did not leave the Empire? What if I didn't get such disease? These things have been running in my mind since we retire in this room. And I couldn't help but wonder, how will my life be if that happens?"

Ashton remained silent listening to what else she has to say.

"Would I be as strong as I am now, just as what the others said? Would I be able to do what I can do right now? Being the pianist, being a multi business owner, or being a major shareholder of the Empires? Who would I be?"

Ashton held her hand and intertwined their fingers together, "Those are senseless questions."

Amber stared at him dumbfounded, she was speaking of so many things yet he just suddenly said that they were senseless?

Ashton seeing her look chuckled.

"We already made our choices, we have heard this many times but there is no such thing as what if's in this world. Once you choose, you face the consequences. Once you choose you will walk down that path until you reach the next choices."

He held her hand and played with her fingers, he was only looking at them.

"This time, I chose to go to that meeting and leave Madison, causing me to lose her. This time I chose to go to Star Country for the three year promise and I met you. This time I chose to create a weapon company causing me to lose Carl for not being careful."

Finally he looked back in her eyes, "This time I chose to put a ring on your ring finger in order to marry you. These choices gave me both pain and happiness but still most of my choices led me to you."

"That is why there is no what ifs, I chose this path and I chose the path where I can walk together with you. Stop thinking about such things and just face forward."

Amber sighed with a smile, "Since when have you become so good with words?"

"Who knows maybe you influenced me," Ashton replied as he kissed the back of her hand.

"Let's sleep, the wedding preparations are about to begin. I am looking forward to the day you are finally tied down with me," he said as he helped her to lie down.

He hugged her tight as she hugged him back and with her eyes closed and a smile on her face she spoke, "If I were to say what I have gained in everything that happened to me? I would say I gained the best gift I could ever as for. You."

Ashton smiled down at her and bent down to give her a kiss on her lips. His hands cupped her cheek and the kiss became deeper.

They knew that there are more terrible things they would surely face but they wanted to live this moment to the fullest.

After that kiss, he touched her lips with his thumb, "I love you Thalie. No matter what happens, I will always be here with you, I have promised that multiple times and I will never get tired in promising it over and over again."
