Amy arrived work a little bit earlier than usual. She was eager to see Blake and give her gift to him. She kept her gaze fixed on the door to see if Blake had arrived the office, since he took that route to his office everyday. Because luckily for her, both of their offices were on the same floor. She couldn't focus entirely on her work as her eyes kept wandering to the door to see him pass by.
It was already his usual time for resuming work, and she was beginning to wonder if Jake wouldn't be coming to the office today. She frowned at the thought of that.
Obviously she had forgotten Blake never shows up at work on this special day.
"Why has Mr Blake not resumed work this morning?" Amanda, a newly employed staff at the development department asked another female colleague, Cassandra in a low tone.
"Manager Blake wouldn't be coming to the office today" Cassandra replied. Cassandra was the busy body of the department. She was too nosy for her own good, and she always had first class information.
"Why? How did you know that?" Amanda asked curiously. She wasn't sure how Cassandra had come to such conclusion.
"He doesn't report to work during his birthday. I guess you don't know that" Cassandra informed her. She tilted her head and stared at Amanda intently.
"Why were you asking?" Cassandra asked in her full gossipy mode. She loved sticking her nose in other people's business. To her it was a hobby.
"Nothing I just noticed, he hasn't passed by as usual" Amanda replied with shrug.
"That's a lie. You like him too, don't you?" Cassandra asked, but it sounded more like a statement than a question.
"I do not!" Amanda denied, while Cassandra scoffed.
"You can't deny it. There isn't a girl in this company who doesn't want to date him or get into his brother's pants"
There was a clear difference between Jake and Blake in the ladies eyes. Blake was the perfect guy every girl wanted to date, while his brother was the guy every girl wanted to spend a night with, because they knew he wouldn't offer anything more even if they wanted him to.
"And do you know he's having a birthday party today?" Cassandra added in a hushed tone.
"Really?" Amanda eyes lit up as she asked.
"Will you both shut up!" Amy roared in vexation. She was irritated by their noisiness. Or rather by the fact that she had forgotten Blake always skipped work during his birthdays. How could she have forgotten something so important? If she had remembered earlier, then she'd have gotten him his gift earlier.
Amanda and Cassandra glared silently at Amy, but they definitely couldn't refute her, since that was a sign of disrespect to a higher colleague, as Amy was their supervisor in the department.
Acrosoft had extremely tough work ethics which prevented Junior staffs from undermining the authority of their seniors colleagues and also prevented senior colleagues from abusing their power.
Amy stared at the small gift bag on her desk and she felt a pit of dissappointment digging up in her stomach. She had been looking forward to this day. But it seems it would all be in vain. 'So much for being prepared and excited' She said to herself.
She didn't know if she was getting worked up over Blake's absence or about Cassandra's and Amanda's conversation. Why was he so handsome and flirty, that all the ladies at the company were drooling over him.
Amy was disappointed and her countenance was sour. She angrily got up from her seat and stormed out of the office with no destination in mind. She knew she shouldn't feel bad about the turn of event, but she couldn't help it.
When things don't go according to plans, you can't help but feel sad and disappointed or worse, angry.
She stood at the elevator lobby, impatiently waiting for the lift. She didn't feel like doing anything right now.
She raised her gaze to the elevator when it chimed on arrival, and her heart suddenly skipped several beats when her eyes met the person she has been waiting for...Blake Beau.
"Hello beautiful" Blake greeted with a cute smile that revealed those dimples she loved. Amy stared at him in stupefaction as his presence was too appealing to her sight.
He was looking godly handsome in his Royal blue colored tailored suit. His brown hair was neatly combed backward, making his jaw line more prominent. Amy couldn't peel her eyes off him.
She regained herself and she almost bit her tongue in embarrassment for openly and shamelessly gawking at him. She raised her gaze back to him, when she realized something.
"Please wait" She hastily said before dashing back to her office. Blake narrowed his brows in confusion, when she asked him to wait before leaving. He was almost tempted to leave and not wait for her, but something in him was curious about what she was up to.
Minutes later he saw her walking back with a small bag in hand. He raised a brow in a questioning manner when she just stood there without saying a word.
Amy was somewhat shy and nervous. Her palms were beginning to sweat, and her heart was racing rapidly.
"Happy birthday" She said with a small smile as she handed the bag over to him. Blake was surprised by her kind gesture as he smiled at her. He looked at her intensely.
"Thank you" He said with a sincere smile, which made her relax a bit as she smiled back at him.
"I hope you like it" Amy said.
"Can I take a look at it?" He asked curiously, he was wondering what was in it and it seems going to his office would take a long time.
Amy was surprised by his question. She wanted to see his reaction when he sees what she got for him. Maybe he would like it. But she was equally scared. What if he didn't?
"I think you should do that later. I have to go" She said, even though all she wanted was to stare at his handsome face and take in that sweet smell of his that made her heart flutter when he was close.
"Okay. And thanks for this" He said appreciatively.
"You're welcome" Amy replied with a smile. Her heart was singing right now. She slowly turned to leave.
"Wait" Blake stopped her. Amy's heart was beginning to thump heavily. Maybe he was going to ask for her number. She squealed excitedly in her heart.
"I'm having a party tonight. Maybe you can come?" Blake asked, tilting his head to look at her, when her countenance changed instantly.
"Party?" She asked in a quiet voice.
"Yeah" He nodded.
"Well I already have one to attend with my brother" Amy said in a dissappointed tone. Right now all she wanted to do was call Lair to cancel their initial plans, but she also didn't want to disappoint Jade. Or maybe they could all attend his party instead. That would be a great idea.
"But you can give me the details. I might have some time to drop by" She added hopefully.
"Okay. Come to The Westins, by 7pm" He said still holding a smile.
"Okay" Amy nodded, as she tried to hold herself for grinning sheepishly in front of him. Her heart was doing a lot of things she didn't understand.
Blake Beau had just invited her to his party!!!
"Bye beautiful. And just so you know, yellow suits you perfectly" He complemented as he winked at her, before leaving. Amy couldn't help but blush at his compliment. She looked at her dress again and she couldn't be happier for making the right choice.
Blake thanking her, calling her beautiful, taking her gift...all of this was making her float in the cloud. She didn't want this feeling to end. She wanted to feel this way all day...everyday.
Now all she had to do was convince Lair Walker...'That evil boy'.. She had a feeling he would say no.
