Chapter 43 - Birthday Party 1

Amy was shocked to hear that Lair's so called friend who was supposed to be her colleague was Blake.

How did that happen?

The question tugging on her mind right now, was how Lair became acquainted with Blake. This was totally unexpected.

"How did you become acquainted with Blake?" Amy asked inquisitively.

Lair looked from Amy to Jade, who was equally suprised by the mention of Blake's name. He would consider Amy's reactions normal, but why Jade? He never knew they were both acquainted with Blake.

But on a second thought, Amy's reaction was more than that of a mere colleague. There was something more to this.

"What's going on? Why do you guys look so suprised?" He asked refusing to answer Amy's questions as he changed glances between them.

"That's not a reponse to my question" Amy said in annoyance when Lair avoided her question.

"What do you guys know that I don't?" He asked again, when it seemed like their brains were yet to register his initial questions. "And how did you know him?" He turned to ask Jade.

"Nothing!"

"I don't know him"

They both answered at same time. Lair narrowed his eyes as he looked at them doubtfully. He had noticed that both their response were synced since they picked up Jade. He wasn't going to buy the 'nothing' excuse.

He shot them a questioning look, daring them to spill whatever they were hiding.

"I said it's nothing" Amy said dismissively before giving Jade a look that says 'Don't say a word'. She knew Lair would tease her senseless till she was greatly embarrassed, if he knew she was chasing after a man. She was scared he might jinx the whole night for her.

Lair signed in resignation, when it looked like he wouldn't get anything out of them. He didn't push it further, he was sure whatever they were hiding would come to light soon. He is a patient man.

"Come on let's go" Lair said as he stepped out of the car. Amy couldn't help but scowl at his back. Lair had refused to answer her question. But that was Lair's way of doing things.

Jade and Amy stepped out of the car too, and closely followed Lair to the hall for the party.

Jade noticed how nervous Amy was. She kept taking deep breaths to calm herself, which made Jade almost chuckle. She couldn't believe the tough and smart Amy Walker was acting like an high schooler who had a crush on the popular jock boy in school. It reminded her of herself, when she had a crush on Cale back in high school before they accidentally met again and started dating in college.

"You'll be fine. You look stunning enough to make any guy drop dead" Jade said exaggeratedly which made Amy stare at her with a mock glare as she tried to suppress a smile tugging on the side of her lips.

"It's so comforting to see that you're making fun of my situation" Amy said sarcastically.

"I'm not. Believe me, nobody would see you right now and ignore you, or not wish you were their's" Jade said with a smile.

"What if he does?" Amy asked nervously.

"What if he ignores you?" Jade asked, while Amy nodded.

"He wouldn't dare" Jade said with a serious face.

"But if he does, that only means he doesn't deserve you. So you'll just have to stop chasing him...or liking him" Jade said.

"Worst comes to worst, he might see you and act like a snub. But that will only show you what kind of a guy he is" Jade said thoughtfully. The last thing she wanted for Amy was a pretentious Cale in her life too.

"But..." Amy's was interrupted by Jade.

"Amy you'll be fine and everything will be fine. You'll surely get him okay" She said comfortingly.

"Okay" Amy replied as they walked into the hall.

"Rich people do know how to throw a party. So much for a 'small get together'" Lair commented when they walked into the party hall.

"Like you all aren't rich" Jade sneered.

The Walker family was not an ordinary family. They were also known in the elite circle of City A. They had been involved in the Legal department of the country for generations. Amy and Lair were the only children of their parents who were not interested in the family's heritage job.

Amy was happy when Lair decided to venture into the medical field, and that had encouraged her in pursuing her I.T career. That and a lot of support from Lair too.

"It's certain I can't throw a party as big as this" The walker family was not in any in comparison to the Beau's. Though they were involved in different sectors, but the walker's were in no place a match for the Beau's.

Amy paid no attention to Lair's and Jade's banter as her eyes kept scanning the room full of people in search of Blake.

Her heart's rhythm changed automatically when she finally spotted him smiling in her direction.
