Chapter 309 - Shh

"Bro, if this continues, the engine will overheat... I need to get off." Under his breath, Kenneth Bai muttered through his gritted teeth as he tried to put control over his unstoppable big bike.

"My men will be here shortly..." Matthew Xi's voice was calm, as if the situation hadn't gone out of hand.

However, deep down, his heart was pounding frantically. When they were going back, Kenneth Bai kept shouting that his brakes had malfunctioned.

In an instant, Matthew Xi was alarmed as his mind calculated what would be the consequences. Hence, they decided to return to their original route as those were the roads that were closed off.

Since Kenneth Bai's speed was faster than any of them, Matthew Xi could only think of one person who could help: Zoey. He hated the fact that he had to trouble her. However, this was a life and death situation and Zoey could surely use Enzo Li's car to its maximum potential.

Moreover, Matthew Xi's men wouldn't make it if he asked for back up. Zoey was the closest and this needed to be settled as soon as possible.

The question was: how? Matthew Xi had been thinking of ways they could help Kenneth Bai who was driving at an insane speed all the while trying to exceed his own limits in driving.

"Sh*t!" Kenneth Bai cursed, seeing what lay ahead of him. There was a slow moving truck ahead while there was another truck on the other lane.

"Ken," Matthew Xi called out, his tone stiff as he could see the dilemma ahead of them. He moved his eyes, thinking of ways not to harm anyone.

"Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t!" Kenneth Bai felt like losing his mind and he could not think properly. This was the first time he was into this kind of deadly situation. Hence, it would be odd if he could think straight.

"I'm going to crash! I'm going to crash!" Kenneth Bai shouted repeatedly, gritting his teeth as he tried to embrace the possibilities of either his death or him murdering someone.

"Calm down, Ken!" Matthew Xi, who had been hearing those loud curses and his panic stricken tone, ground his teeth in frustration.

The road was wide, but those heavy duty vehicles mostly occupied the space. If they were right, their speed wouldn't make it to slip past these two trucks easily. Especially the side of the road that was nothing but trees.

"Sh*t!" Kenneth Bai's mind was unable to process the words from the earpiece as his mind was occupied with death. Nothing could go to his head.

Just as he was cursing, Matthew Xi noticed the beam from his side mirror. He glanced at it and saw that it was Enzo Li's sports car. However, by the manner of driving and how they caught up with them, Matthew Xi knew it was his woman.

Zoey's eyes sharpened upon seeing the major dilemma at the moment. As she realized that this would be a major problem, Zoey's grip on the steering wheel tightened.

"Ivan, do you trust me?" Zoey asked, constantly flickering her headlights ahead to give the two men ahead her signal.

Ivan faced Zoey, studying her solemn side profile in a second. "You don't have to ask." He answered, buckling his seat because it would be the crazy part of this rescue mission.

Without a word, Zoey turned the steering wheel to the left, changing lanes to where the truck drove in the opposite direction. Zoey abused the headlight button, beaming lights towards the truck driving towards her.

As she did so, Zoey pressed the pedal and accelerated her speed. Driving at the maximum speed, Zoey continued to beam lights at the truck ahead.

Seeing what was happening, Matthew Xi gritted his teeth because this was not just risky but also dangerous! Zoey was driving on the other lane and the truck was driving opposite her! If the truck wouldn't stop, not only Kenneth Bai would crash but also her!

"This woman!" Through his gritted teeth, Matthew Xi inhaled sharply as he tried to speed up but to no avail. He was already driving at the maximum speed yet he couldn't catch up to Kenneth Bai.

"Come on..." Zoey murmured, hoping the truck driver would understand her signal. Shortly, Zoey noticed that the truck had reduced its speed before it came to a full halt.

"Hell yeah!" Zoey shouted, shifting her gaze to Kenneth Bai as he finally got himself together and drove through the gap between the two trucks.

Upon seeing that Kenneth Bai made it past the trucks, Zoey sighed in relief and sped away to follow him. Slowly, Zoey switched to the right lane and honked at the truck driver who was quick to understand her signals.

Zoey then approached Matthew Xi in no time. Slowly, she rolled down the window of the passenger seat, "Ivan, tell him to stop. I'll bring that guy home, safe and sound." Zoey instructed as they came close to Matthew Xi.

"Uh..." Baffled, Ivan still nodded his head and faced the rolled down window. When they caught up with Matthew Xi, Ivan shouted for him to hear. "We can take this from here!" Ivan only knew a few Chinese words, but instinctively he spoke in English.

Since Zoey knew he couldn't speak this country's language, she wouldn't instruct him to perform that simple task if the man couldn't understand English, right?

Matthew Xi gave the unfamiliar looking foreigner a side eye. He could barely see Zoey's side profile before a heavy sigh slipped past his lips. This was a heavy decision for him, but Matthew Xi knew he wouldn't be able to help right now.

Therefore, bearing a heavy heart, Matthew Xi had to swallow his pride as a man and reduced his speed. Deep down, he was disappointed that he was relying on the woman he cared for. Still, this wasn't the time for that.

When Matthew Xi's motorcycle reduced speed, Zoey felt like a thorn in her heart was plucked at. Without thinking of Matthew Xi being in the same danger, Zoey could now finally concentrate on Kenneth Bai.

"Sis, do you—"

"Shh.." Zoey shushed the curious Ivan as she didn't want the slightest noise at the moment.
