Chapter 342 - Severed Story : My Past, My Present, My Future

"Z..." When Zoey finally woke up from her dream land, Cora whispered her name which caught Zoey's attention.

"Hmm?" Facing the aghast Cora, Zoey blinked her eyes many times as she tilted her head to the side. If only she knew that right this moment, Cora had the urge to drag her out to scold her, she would be dumbfounded.

After all, Zoey seemed to have forgotten that she was back in the year 2012. The year that Cora wasn't friends with her husband, the time they weren't all connected to this man who always put Zoey's interest first despite it being against his own methods.

For example, he let Zachery Kwan walk freely despite knowing what he had done to Zoey when she was a child. Why did he do it? That was because Matthew knew she cared for Zion Kwan. Thus, he had to take a step back and observe Zachery Kwan's movements from the shadows.

However, when he did, when Matthew softened, it cost him his life. The reason Iñigo wreaked their lives as much as he pleased.

"Is this enough proof that I am not after your friend's wealth?" Matthew inquired, still carrying the slight mirth on his lips.

Cora gulped down, her hand that was holding the business card trembled and soon the card fell on the edge of the bed. Zoey glanced at it, the second her eyes landed on what was printed on it, her under eyes twitched.

"Right..." He murmured, raising his gaze back to Cora in conflict. No wonder the shock plastered across her face was akin to those horror movies.

It was indeed horrifying to meet Matthew Xi in the flesh. Considering their status, they could only dream of breathing the same air as him — what more, sitting face to face with him!

Now that Zoey recalled, during this timeline in her previous life, Matthew Xi was one on her list to attain — not romantically though. In business terms, Zoey wanted to stand atop, walking on the same ground as these giants.

Obviously, she didn't manage to attain that in business terms, but well, she married him and their love bore fruit...

As soon as the fruit of their love crossed Zoey's mind, she froze and paled. Right... She was a mother once.

Her child... their child together... he/she didn't get to see the world as he followed Matthew Xi the same day. How could she, for even a second, forget the life that she once nurtured inside her?

She had been in this lifetime for two days, but she never dwelled about that little life that hurt her as much as Matthew's death? Guilt crawled slowly into her heart, feeling an invisible hand clench it tightly.

"Hmm?" Matthew, who immediately noticed her strange expressions, knitted his brows. The more he studied her odd behavior, Matthew leaned closer as he cupped her cheek.

"Are you hurt somewhere?" He asked as he blinked his eyes in worry.

"Z? Are you fine?" Cora snapped from the current subject as her focus shifted to Zoey. She seemed pale, paler than earlier. Hence, the worry of the two as she just suddenly started acting differently in silence.

"I..." Her lower lips trembled, attempting to focus on his pair of worried russet orbs. However, before she could fight the heaviness of her eyelids, Zoey fainted.

Fortunately, Matthew Xi was close as he caught her fall in his shoulders. "Miss Zhou? Miss Zhou?!" Worried, Matthew patted Zoey's shoulder but she was unresponsive.

As if on cue, Cora searched for the button to call for medical assistance. Soon, she found it and pressed it repeatedly while she and Matthew stared at each other in terror.

One minute later, the physician that was on duty and a few nurses came in. Immediately, Cora and Matthew stepped aside, letting the medical professionals do their job without hindering them.

When they finished checking Zoey's vitals and her IV Drip, the doctor approached Matthew Xi who was standing in the corner. His eyes were fixated on Zoey, barely blinking as his heart raced — terrified of what might have happened to her.

This feeling was the same horror from last night when her temperature shot up unexpectedly. Matthew was uncertain why he was so worried about her, but his heart seemed to know the reason.

However, his heart doesn't talk. All it did was to make him feel these strange fears that loomed around him ever since he met her.

"Mr. Xi?" The doctor called out, tilting his head to the side which snapped Matthew from his stupor.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to space out." As soon as he snapped back to reality, Matthew apologized and admitted that he was deep in his thoughts, asking himself why.

"It's fine, Mr. Xi. The patient just needs enough rest. Her vitals are normal..." Patient and lenient as he should be, the doctor repeated what he already said earlier.

This time, Matthew listened carefully then glanced to Cora who was listening for the second time. After the doctor explained, he bid his farewell and stressed that Zoey needed rest as she suffered from fatigue.

"Mr. Xi, you can..."

"Go home and rest. I'll look after her." Matthew interrupted, his voice low yet so commanding.

"But..." Cora attempted to argue, but the impatient glint that flashed across his eyes made her pause. "...Alright." She nodded in agreement, glancing at Zoey for the last time before she sighed and dragged her feet out.

When Cora departed the room, Matthew strode towards the side of the bed. His gaze traveled on her figure. "*sigh* I told you, you need rest." He whispered, shaking his head as he felt a headache thinking how stubborn this lady was.

Just as he was about to walk away and go towards the seat near her, the paper that was on the side of the bed somehow flew down. Thus, Matthew picked it up and had a glimpse of what was written on it. It says:

"Severed Story : My Past, My Present, My Future" under it, there was another quote : "The recollection of my Life"
