"I don't think it's proper to treat a lady like that." Zion Kwan commented, trying to sound polite as his eyes moved to Ivan's hand that was holding Cora's wrist.
"And I don't think it's proper to meddle with someone else's love affair." Ivan smirked, staring straight at Zion Kwan who had a little bit of resemblance with Zoey when she was just a little girl. Good thing Zion Kwan wasn't a fool and spoke English so he could relay his message clearly.
'Love affair?' Momentarily, Zion was startled upon hearing the word. He then shifted his eyes to Cora who was standing still beside Ivan, and then to her restrained wrist once again.
A gleam of pain flashed across his eyes as his mind formed his own assumptions from Ivan's remarks. Yet, when he lifted his eyes back to them, Zion offered a gentle smile as if he was unbothered. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound rude. I'm just concerned about her because she's like my little sister." Zion explained.
No one would suspect that those words were nothing but lies. However, Ivan and Zion knew that deep down he was lying. Another ten seconds passed before Ivan opened his mouth. "Don't worry. I'm just a little protective of her since I can't entrust her with anyone." Ivan stressed his last remarks, provoking Zion who kept his gentle front despite the indirect taunting.
"Don't worry, I fully understand you."
"Good." Displeased that Zion kept his cool and didn't bite his indirect provocation, Ivan clicked his tongue.
"Uhm…" Although Cora was ashamed of Zion to see her with another man, she didn't want to move, afraid he would kill her. Cora knew he wouldn't really silence her, but she still sensed a different vibe from him which made her cower.
She could feel that once she moved, her knees would give way, and she might collapse. Cora had never felt this fear before, even earlier from her boss, she felt violated but not this level of fear. Thus, she didn't pay much attention to their conversation.
Next second later, Cora's back stiffened when that pair of blue eyes met hers. "Wh -- what?" She stuttered, wondering if he was the same man she was mercilessly calling names.
To her surprise, Ivan smiled at her gently. "Nothing, babe." Ivan shook his head lightly, his thumb caressed her wrist that sent shivers down her spine. "Anyway, as much as I hate to part with you, I have to go. I still have work tomorrow." Cora was hundred percent clueless of what he was saying, but it made her heart race. Not because she was flattered, but because she felt that there was something strange about how he was acting.
'What is with this sudden act of kindness?' She wondered internally, before she felt her wrist being freed by him.
"See you tomorrow." Ivan, who kept his eyes glued to her, smiled sweetly. He then put his helmet on with the visor up. When Ivan was ready to go, he glanced at Zion for the last time before looking at Cora. Without a word, Ivan revved his motorbike and sped away, leaving the two watching him go farther and farther away from them.
When Ivan's shadow also vanished from the sight, Cora slowly returned her focus to Zion. "Brother Zion…" However, just as she attempted to take a step forward, Ivan's effect was still on her body. Thus, instead of rushing to Zion Kwan, Cora remained standing in her position.
"Brother Zion, what are you doing here?" Since her own body wasn't listening to her, Cora forced a smile on her lips as she asked.
For a minute, Zion just stared at her. Normally, Cora would welcome him with excitement glistening her eyes. But now, she seemed… hesitant? Distant? Nervous? Either way, Zion understood why.
'She found someone now…' Zion muttered internally, gulping down the emotion he didn't want to resurface in his eyes.
"Rara," The side of his lips curled into his gentle smile, calling her by the nickname which sounded painful now. "I just came to say 'hello', and also, is Zoey still mad?" Zion inquired.. He didn't have a hard time thinking of the reason as he had already thought about it before coming to see her.
"Ohh…" Cora nodded her head in understanding, not surprised that these were the reason why he came to see her. Thus, her reaction didn't change much as she had been in this situation many times that she couldn't count anymore.
"I don't think Z is still angry. Actually, I think you should talk to her directly, I'm sure she'll understand if you explain yourself." Out of goodwill, Cora advised.
Although she was happy to see Zion every once in a while, Cora didn't want to trouble him for driving here because Zoey didn't want to talk to her. After all, it's been months since Zoey stopped talking to him. Therefore, her anger had subsided long ago -- Cora assumed.
However, he perceived her good intention as she didn't want to see him because she now has a lover. "I see…" Zion meekly smiled, nodding his head in understanding. "I will. Thank you and sorry for troubling you." He bowed his head lightly.
"No, it's fine." Cora shook her hands as she chuckled awkwardly. "You're my best friend's brother, all I want is for you two to be fine." She explained.
"Still, thankyou, Ra. You've been a good friend. Anyway, I won't bother you further. Good night, Ra." With that being said, Zion stared at her for a few seconds longer before hitching inside his car. He honked lightly as he drove in reverse, before turning after a good distance.
"Brother Zion…" For some reason, her heart ached as he closed the door of the car.
She didn't know why, but she could feel that something was off. She couldn't tell if Ivan said something awful to him, but it didn't seem like Zion was offended. If anything, it seemed that he's a little… weird?
Zion glanced at Cora through the rear mirror, his grip on the steering wheel tightened, his jaw tightened as he slowly stepped his foot on the pedal. "Good bye, My Love.." Zion whispered as he drove away bearing a broken heart.
