Chapter 596 - Sixth Commandment IX

Two days later…

In the Kwan Mansion's garden, Sarah and Old Madam Kwan were enjoying their afternoon tea. It had been a while since Sarah's mother-in-law, Zachery's mother, went to visit her. The latter was still oblivious of Sarah and Zach's ridiculous set up which would surely enrage her.

"So, did you do what I advised you to do?" After a long chit chatting, catching up on other things, old madam Kwan finally opened the conversation they had previously.

"Mom," Sarah sighed, forcing herself to smile. "I can't do that to an innocent child."

After taking a deep breath, Sarah finally found the courage to reject the idea. Although she considered seducing Zachery the night of their anniversary, she didn't need to in the end.

Her charm was her personality. If she could affect Zachery just by that, she knew she could get her husband back without anyone or any kind of pill helping her. Also, unlike the old madam Kwan, Sarah was willing to accept Zachery's child if they ended up being together in the end.

"Sarah, do you know that there will be no competition once a child is involved?" Not pleased by Sarah's response, Old Madam Kwan frowned. "I am speaking from experience. If I didn't do what I've done, our family would have fallen apart years ago."

Old Madam Kwan added in a matter-of-fact tone. She arched her right brow before a sigh slipped past her lips. Of course, she couldn't force Sarah as she was a good-natured girl.

It was just frustrating to the old madam that her son would do what his father did back in the day. She pitied her daughter-in-law and could relate to her grief for being cheated on. Not to mention, Zachery decided to choose his mistress instead of his wife.

"But, Mom…" Suddenly, Sarah's words trailed off as she felt a sudden knot in her stomach.

For some reason, Sarah started feeling nauseous and had the urge to vomit. She tried to hold it in, placing her hand in front of her lips until she felt a little better.

"Sarah, dear, are you all right?" Worried, old madam Kwan knitted her brows as she stood from her seat and went to Sarah's side.

The old madam started patting Sarah's back gently, wondering what was wrong. However, the next moment, just when Sarah thought she was all better, she suddenly sprung from her seat and sprinted away to throw up.

As she watched her daughter-in-law vomit, the old madam kwan squinted her eyes into a thin line. She didn't want to jump into conclusions, but what else could she think at this moment?

Still, instead of just staring at Sarah, the old madam called for help and helped Sarah. Good thing she was quick to call help because Sarah fainted afterwards.

"Is my daughter-in-law fine?" asked the old madam Kwan after their family doctor was done checking on Sarah's health.

"Yes, Madam. Misis Zheng is perfectly fine and normal because she's in her first trimester of her pregnancy. Congratulations on this news, Madam Kwan." The doctor smiled happily, bowing to express his best regards on this news of their family.

However, unlike most expecting grandparents, the old madam was more baffled. She kept darting her eyes from the doctor and then to Sarah's figure that was lying down on the bed.

"She's…?"

"Yes, Madam Kwan. Missus Zheng is two weeks pregnant. I'm sure Master Kwan would be delighted about it. After all, it's about time for them to have a child." The doctor chatted lightheartedly, not knowing the current situation of the family.

"I see,"

Yet, the doctor could not help but notice the odd reaction from the old madam. Still, the family doctor knew he was not in the place to ask. Thus, he didn't and just smiled.

"Thank you, Doctor Zhao. You may go." After some time, the old madam smiled and bid the doctor farewell.

The doctor bowed once again and left the prescription and a note of recommendation for a Ob-Gyn that Sarah could see. After that, the doctor left and the old madam was alone in a room where Sarah was sleeping.

'Who could be the father? Zach?' The old madam wondered internally, getting stressed about it.

After all, she knew that Sarah and Zach haven't done anything. Sarah was too reserved and wouldn't initiate anything; that's the kind of girl she was. Hence, the old madam had mixed emotions.

Was it her grandchild? Or did Sarah also try giving up her chastity to another man? The old madam didn't know what to think about this pregnancy. Hence, she decided to wait until Sarah woke up.

Only her daughter-in-law could give her the answer. Still, deep down, the old madam sincerely hoped that it was Zach's ; that there was another story she was unaware about.

After an hour or two of just sitting there, the old madam finally saw movements of Sarah. Immediately, she went to the side of the table while Sarah was trying to assist herself to sit.

"Sarah, dear? How are you feeling?" Old Madam Kwan asked, furrowing her brows as she scrutinized her daughter-in-law.

"I feel a little dizzy, Mom." With a hoarse voice, Sarah answered before her mother-in-law handed her a glass of water.

Without a second hesitation, Sarah drank it to relieve her dry throat. She's still feeling nauseous, feeling sick which she didn't like the slightest.

"You made me worry." The old madam sighed heavily, purposely not mentioning the pregnancy so it wouldn't surprise Sarah.

"I'm sorry, Mom. It's probably the stress and fatigue. I will feel better with enough sleep." Sarah smiled weakly as she looked up to the old madam who appeared to be worried about her.

"I see," The old madam nodded in understanding.

Slowly, the old madam walked towards the table next to the bed. Sarah only watched her mother-in-law before the latter handed her a piece of paper.

Puzzled, Sarah furrowed her brows but said nothing as she accepted it and skimmed through it. As soon as she did, her eyes widened in surprise.

"Sarah, dear, are you hiding something?" The old madam didn't beat around the bush and ask. But, upon staring at Sarah's side profile, all she saw was Sarah's eyes welling up due to happiness about the news.

As if her mother-in-law was not there, or rather, as if nothing ever mattered in that moment, Sarah carefully caressed her tummy and whispered, "Zach, we did it…"
