Another week had passed by since Sarah came to know about her pregnancy. During the entire week, she had only spent a little time with Zachery.
Sarah had a few chances to let him know about the news, but everytime, something would come up. Still, since Zachery had been busy with 'work', he would always go after spending a meal with her.
"So, have you told him?" Sarah snapped back from her thoughts upon hearing Old Madam's voice.
She blinked her eyes, moving it to her mother-in-law's figure. Currently, they were in the garden, enjoying their afternoon tea. The old madam didn't probe about Sarah's pregnancy, and this was her first time after a week that she was asking the latter.
"Huh?"
"The father of the child inside your womb." In a matter-of-fact tone, old madam Kwan tilted her head into the direction of Sarah's stomach. "It's Zach's or someone else's?"
Old Madam Kwan added, arching her right brow as she sipped from her tea. Baffled, Sarah furrowed her brows. Why did her mother-in-law sound so calm despite adding her last remarks?
It was understandable if Old Madam Kwan was upset if she assumed that the father of the child inside Sarah's womb was from another man. However, by the looks and sound of the former, whatever answer Sarah would tell her, it would be fine?
"If it's Zach's, better. But, if it's not…" Old Madam Kwan paused as she stared at Sarah straight in the eye. "...if it's not, no one should know about it."
Upon hearing her mother-in-law's last remarks, Sarah was rendered speechless. She could not believe the extent of how the old madam would go to keep this marriage.
Although Sarah was well aware that it was Zach's, it was puzzling for her how the old madam could say such words. If she would tell this news to her own mother, the entire Zheng Clan wouldn't want the child. Yet, the old madam was different.
For some reason, the seed of fear that had been planted in her heart was slowly growing. The more she interacted with the old madam, Sarah was scared of her deep down. Even though her mother-in-law wouldn't harm her, Sarah wondered how extreme her mother-in-law could be.
"Mom, what are you…"
"Although I sensed that the child inside your womb is Zach's, I can't rule out the possibility that it's not. Either way, use this to your advantage to keep this marriage." In a matter-of-fact tone, the old madam's words didn't falter.
Sarah felt a sudden knot inside her stomach, cringing upon hearing her mother-in-law's remarks. Was she truly hearing her right?
"But,"
"Sarah, I am saying this because I will only accept you as my daughter-in-law; no one else. If this divorce happened successfully, I wouldn't have a face to show to the late Master Zheng."
Sarah pursed her lips in a thin line. Of course, she knew that the old madam had close ties with the Zheng's, the reason the Kwan got acquainted with the Zheng's. It was said that the old madam was indebted to the Zheng.
For what reason? Sarah didn't know. But what she was certain was the old madam would keep whatever promise she had with Sarah's grandfather.
"Mom, that's not needed." Shrugging her other thoughts off, Sarah shook her head lightly as she offered a gentle smile. "It's Zach's. It's our child; the fruit of our… feelings."
Slowly, Sarah gazed down still bearing the smile on her lips. She rubbed her tummy ever so gently; She loved this child even though she hadn't seen him or her.
"It may sound a little off, but me and Zach have been on good terms. He told me he was also having second thoughts about the divorce as well, that's why I contacted my lawyers not to process the divorce." Sarah explained as she slowly raised her head with a smile on her lips.
The old madam nodded in understanding, heaving a sigh of relief. "So it's Zach's… it's my grandchild, after all."
Suddenly, the old madam's tone grew gentler as she gazed on Sarah's tummy before having eye contact with her. Seeing her reaction, Sarah was delighted as her smile grew wider.
"How about that woman?" Old Madam Kwan asked.
"We will figure that out. I am willing to adopt the child so Zach wouldn't have to worry about the child. As long as our family will be complete again, I don't mind having to take care of someone else's child since it's Zach's child." Sarah expressed wholeheartedly.
Sarah had been willing to do anything to Zach. Even if she had to welcome his child with another woman, she would do it. As long as the child inside her womb would grow up with a complete family.
Madam Kwan nodded once again, her eyes, however, glinted which Sarah failed to notice. Still, she didn't say anything and 'agreed' with Sarah's decision.

Later that night, Sarah prepared a feast because Zachery would finally stay for the night. She wanted to give him a peaceful atmosphere to destress himself from work with a full stomach.
She had told almost everything to the old madam, keeping a few details that Sarah had a role of the third party. She knew exposing that part would enrage her mother-in-law. Also, it's not something Sarah was proud about, but what else could she do?
"Yes, put this here." Sarah assisted the maid as they served each dish on the table.
It's about time that Zach would arrive. That's why Sarah was preparing the table so he could just eat upon his arrival.
Sarah glanced at the clock and smiled a little. Each second that passed, she was growing excited. It's not just the thought of spending Zach's day off together, but she wanted to tell him about her pregnancy.
"Madam,"
"Yes? Zach's here?" Upon hearing her maid, the young Jean Long, who would be Zion's nanny in the future, Sarah turned to her excitedly.
"Master was on the line just moments ago. He said he couldn't make it." The moment Jean relayed the message, the smile on Sarah's face faded as her heart sank in her chest.
