Katherine spent more time in the dining area, with her feet over the table, her back leaning on the chair's back.
Since Matthew gave her the liberty to stay in his house, she didn't know what to do. After all, Katherine spent most of her days doing shopping sprees during the day, and then partying at night.
That's all she was good at. There may be things that's happening in between, but those don't have much importance.
"I'm bored…" She mumbled as she tilted her head back.
Without Zoey around or Kenneth, it was just boring. Katherine didn't want to bother Zion anymore as she was just getting stressed talking to him. It would be a lot more fun if Ivan was around.
At the sudden thought of Ivan, Katherine went into nothing but silence. In the environment she grew up in, mistakes were unforgivable.
Well, not that her brothers were perfect. However, everyone in the Quinn's household acted perfect -- she's the only exception.
They deemed her as a failure, a good for nothing. If not for her shares that she inherited from her grandpa, Katherine was certain that they would kick her out of the family.
That's why… that's why she didn't want to act a threat to them. Not that she planned on taking over the company and fighting her brothers for it. Still, that didn't save her from the harsh criticism from her own family.
The reason she was in awe when Ivan spoke up his wisdom during breakfast. Zion was the perfect example of her brothers. They appeared perfect, reliable, and capable. The only problem was that they lacked being human.
"Why feel sorry for being human…" She mumbled, the side of her lips curled into a subtle smile.
"What a fool to say such words boldly."
She added, letting out a chuckle at the thought. She could not help but imagine if Ivan had told that to her father, the latter would have surely fainted.
"Hey," Just as Katherine was imagining things, she snapped from her trance upon hearing Enzo's voice.
Slowly, she moved her gaze up. She watched as Enzo took the seat near her.
"What?" She asked, raising her brow.
"You're staying here?" He asked, not beating around the bush.
"Yep." Nonchalant, Katherine nodded. "Why did you ask?"
"You shouldn't." Enzo shook his head. His expression solemnly, making her brows furrow.
"Why not?"
"Don't you think it's a bit suspicious?" He asked, his eyes still on her. "You're staying with the person you met just now. Not to mention, he is one of the country's powerful men. You can't believe anything he says."
Enzo warned. Katherine stared at him for a moment before she chuckled.
"Hey, are you really my friend?" She asked. Enzo furrowed his brows this time.
"Why would you indirectly bad-mouth your cousin to your friend? That's so not you." She stressed, letting out a heavy sigh as she shook her head.
"I'm your friend that's why I'm telling you this. I respect my cousin, but I know him as well."
"What would he do? Kill me, bury me where no one else could find my remains." Her tone was laced with sarcasm.
"Kath…"
"Enzo, for your information, I nearly got abducted last night. I don't know whose doing is that; it can be my family members or someone I don't know. But I'm sure Mister Xi and my big sis is aware of that." In a matter-of-fact tone, Katherine sassed with a smirk.
"Huh?"
"I'm not stupid to think Mister Xi is doing all this out of the goodness of his heart. He's Mister Xi, after all. Also, after a lot of thinking, I think he is trying to help me because of something I did that unintentionally helped big sis." She explained as she retracted her eyes away from Enzo.
Looking at the door in the dining leading to the garden, she narrowed her eyes. "Something that helps…"
She trailed off, her mind wandering somewhere else. Last night, a suspicious guy bumped into her. Normally, Katherine would let it pass.
However, she grew up in a competitive environment where schemes were part of her daily life. Scheming family members, scheming friends, and so on.
Thus, she could tell that the man who bumped into her bore ill-intention. The reason she followed him and caused a scene.
"It couldn't be…" She mumbled, furrowing her brows.
However, deep down, her gut was telling her something to do with last night's events. She only met Zoey last night, and it was under a weird circumstance.
"You nearly got abducted last night?" Enzo repeated, finding the news new to him.
"If not for big sis, we wouldn't be talking here." Katherine scoffed as she rolled her eyes at him. "So, I believe staying here for awhile will be more safe. I can't trust anyone."
"But you trust strangers?" Enzo raised a brow.
"No. I'm trusting my guts!" She exclaimed. "Also, why are you acting like this? I thought you liked your cousin more than anyone?"
Enzo went silent. He glanced at her and looked away.
"I do." He muttered. "But… since she came, he just changed in a strange way. It's like I get the feeling that he is watching my every move and big brother has been very hostile towards me. I don't understand."
Enzo's statement almost sounded like a whisper. Fortunately, it was silent that Katherine heard him.
"If he is hostile towards you, why are you sulking?" With her usual sassiness, Katherine chuckled.
"If you prove that you're not a threat to whatever he thinks, then it's all good. You can't just ask for respect or change anyone's view towards you without doing anything. If they still think the same, then that's on them. You know yourself better and just mind your own business."
Upon Katherine's advice, Enzo gazed at her and saw her shrug. He tapped his fingers on the surface, perusing her statement.
"It's so low class to retaliate by bad-mouthing them. It only makes you more worthy of their unknown suspicion." She added.
"Anyway, don't go anywhere. Let's play with my big sis and brother to kill some time!" After a second, Katherine diverted their subject and patted the table.
"I'll freshen up. You know this place better and I'll die out of boredom and stress if I spend all day hanging out with the other guest, big sis's big brother! See ya later!"
With that being said, Katherine skipped her steps back to the guest room in which she had slept last night. As she left, Enzo stared at her retreating back.
Slowly, Enzo's eyes softened as a subtle smile resurfaced on his lips.
"She always acts like a good for nothing, but she's actually smart." He muttered as she shook his head lightly.. "But, she makes sense… this is not me. Why am I acting guilty when I'm not?"
