Chapter 59 - It must have been an angel (3)
Dr. Su had dragged out the time it took Lu Xingchi to get to the garage, and Bei Nuan went through a fire exit to go to the parking garage and hid in the sleeping bag. The timing was just right.
"What was the first condition to follow me?" Lu Xingchi asked Bei Nuan.
"If I want to follow you, I have to listen to your order. I can't make any decisions on my own," Bei Nuan smoothly answered, and she quibbled, "But you didn't let me follow you, so that condition was temporarily invalid, right?"
Lu Xingchi: "..."
Bei Nuan quietly said, "I only did this because I wanted to follow you guys. It's not like I made a big mistake. Can't you… Be a bit more magnanimous?"
The Holy Mother's magnanimous task: 5 out of 5 completed.
As Bei Nuan saw the countdown for the reward for getting double Holy Mother value, her expression didn't change, but she was quite gleeful and wanted to run in a circle.
She carefully looked at Lu Xingchi.
Lu Xingchi didn't speak. He turned on the engine and went back on the road.
She was surprised he didn't turn the car around. So did this mean he would bring her along and wouldn't send her back?
"Jiangcheng really isn't ideal," Lu Xingchi finally said, "We'll see what better place there is ahead. I'll leave you there."
Bei Nuan sighed. In any case, she had avoided being left behind for now.
Bei Nuan snuck a look. He didn't seem angry. In fact, he seemed quite happy.
"Wait a second," Bei Nuan quickly said and took out her phone in a fluster.
Lu Xingchi didn't know what she wanted to do and stopped the jeep again. He turned to look at her.
"I did something else. I told Dr. Su that I would give them a mysterious gift. They should have discovered it by now," Bei Nuan honestly confessed, "I left behind all of the rice, right behind an aisle. It's a huge pile, enough for them to eat for several years. Anyways, I want to follow you. I won't need the rice for the time being, right?"
Bei Nuan held up her phone. On the screen, there was a photo of sacks of rice piled up into a hill behind an aisle. Half of Bei Nuan's face was showing in the camera shot.
Lu Xingchi was a bit speechless. "Why did you take a photo of it?"
Bei Nuan leisurely answered, "I was worried you wouldn't believe me."
Bei Nuan comfortably leaned back into the seat and called up the Holy Mother progress bar. Sure enough, her Holy Mother points didn't increase when she left the rice behind. She only got points when the male protagonist knew about it.
Bei Nuan wasn't sure if her words were enough to convince Lu Xingchi. What you hear may be false, what you see is true, so she specially took a photo for him to see.
Moreover, Bei Nuan had already planned it out. She had to finish the Holy Mother's voice task before showing him the photo. With the reward from that task, there was an unprecedented increase in the green line that signified the Holy Mother value.
While Bei Nuan happily hugged her Holy Mother points like a miser hugging gold, in the distant Jiangcheng supermarket, someone discovered the rice behind the aisles and informed Dr. Su.
Bag after bag of rice was piled up into a small hill.
Everyone came over to look. They were all very happy.
"How can there be so much rice? How much is there?"
"There's a few hundred bags, right?"
"This is great. It'll be enough for us to eat for a long time!"
"Who got all this rice here? This wasn't here yesterday."
Dr. Su faintly smiled. He knew who it was.
Bei Nuan had said she would leave a mysterious gift behind the aisle yesterday and told him to look for it after she left. He had been busy with other stuff and hadn't had time to go look.
How did she get so much rice here?
Her little face appeared in his mind. In these chaotic and hopeless apocalyptic days, her pure and clean eyes were like a warm light that penetrated the darkness and soothed hearts.
"It must have been an angel," Dr. Su, who had never believed in miracles before, said. He turned around to go look for that underground tunnel engineer.
"Let's go talk about digging that tunnel to access the subway line. I think there's a mysterious power helping us, and we'll definitely survive."
