Chapter 135 135 - Day/Night



"There's nothing in here?" Ryan said, as he observed the interior of the portal he had just entered. After a few teleports with the help of the guild's equipment, he found the place where the compass was taking him.

"That is so empty" 

The portal had thrown him into a completely dark hall, there was no sound other than Ryan's voice. He had no sense of distance or depth, and he couldn't find a wall or even the ceiling or the floor, everything seemed distant.

Walking through the confusing place, he came across a wooden table. On top of it was a white leather book with gold pages beside it, the letters glowed in a glistening blue color. 

"I've seen this before"

"Nyx?" He said, when he realized that the voice of the succubus was no longer in his head.

"Huf - I have no reason to deny it"

As he touched the book, the feeling Ryan's body had was extremely similar to the day he met that white haired girl. A warmth surged through his fingers as he felt the beating of his heart echo throughout his body. The flow of blood from his arms and legs centered in his chest as he felt a strange energy surge through his fingers.

"Yes"

The table suddenly disappeared and again, Ryan was alone in that darkness. In his hand, that strange white leather book glowed with a glistening, golden color that was the only source of light within that strange area. 

Opening the book with both hands, he was faced with empty pages, until an intense light appeared just above the book. The silhouette of a woman had formed, with her long hair falling from top to bottom. Her body was completely transparent, but she remained glowing as if she were some kind of glass or blooming ice. 

This girl had elfin ears, a detail that caught Ryan's attention. When the glow ceased, the girl's body transformed into a physical form, revealing light skin and black hair. Ryan took a few steps back, and carefully observed what was happening.

On top of the girl's head a golden halo appeared, and with a flutter of wings it lit up the entire dark room. Several feathers were falling from the pair of white wings she had on her back, and each feather shone and illuminated the darkness. As if she was waking up from a dream, the girl opened her eyes slowly and turning her face away she looked curiously at Ryan.

She approached him with slow steps and then jumped close with a strange look on her face, her eyebrows were raised as she approached with her nose on his chest.

- I know your smell -

Her voice was echoing in his ears the same way Nyx's voice did. Sighing, he had connected the dots.

"So that was the reward," he concluded.

A light appeared above the room, and within seconds Ryan and the mystery girl fell into an empty space. The feeling he had was the same as falling into a pool full of hot water, when his body lost that feeling he had returned home.

"Thank you guardian of life, this time I won't have to go home" he said aloud as he looked at his living room completely intact.

<I am starting to get tired of suddenly losing touch with you>

Ryan turned to Nyx who was sitting on the couch, and at the same instant she stood up and stared at him. The succubus' face was pale and frightened, and with a step back she stepped back.

Tears were falling from her face, without sobbing or screaming she was just crying. When Ryan turned back, he saw that girl with white wings and a golden halo on her head. That elf was crying too, tears were falling down her beautiful blue eyes that sparkled as she watched the succubus.

The two approached each other, and with a little trepidation, they reached out their hands to touch each other. The succubus put both hands on the angel's face, drying her tears as she looked at her confused. The angel did the same thing, drying the white haired girl's tears.

"Is this a dream sister Nyx?

"It's not, Lux"

Nyx and Lux remained talking for several hours, commenting on the times they lived together with Mama Holga and what life was like in Crystaldrift. 

"So you two had pretty similar fates" Ryan said, as he watched the two.

The sisters exchanged glances, and then Lux spoke again. 

"You could say that... When Nyx turned me into a demon, I spent a lot of time trying to get along with Mama Holga and the rest of the girls, to prevent me from having a fate similar to yours, I devoted myself to the church of light"

The succubus then looked intently at the angel, confused "So you became a devotee?"

Lux nodded. "After two hundred years of intense prayers, hidden away tending a chapel, I became a follower of the light. My sins were absolved and my horns disappeared, giving way to this little thing" she said, laughing.

With one of her fingers the girl touched the halo that began to sway above her head. It remained floating a few inches above her head, but somehow it was as if it was not attached.

Ryan stood up and held out both hands, one to Nyx and one to Lux. The girls held his hand, and with a watchful eye, he tried to observe the difference in the sensations he was having. Sighing, he channeled his mana and demonic energy and tried to transmit this to the two girls.

Ryan's demonic energy was repelled by Lux, it was as if her mere touch disabled the transmission of that energy flow. While he was able to freely pass on that power to Nyx. However, the mana that was in his body could enter through the hands of the two girls, flowing through the fingers of their hands.

'It's... I can feel the same connection' he said, looking at the two girls.

'Can you hear what I'm thinking?'

Lux nodded, and at the same instant, Nyx stood up startled. 

<'Are you going to work for Master Ryan?

- I imagine so? -

<But when and how did this happen>

- I just woke up from a strange dream and felt a connection to him -

Lux closed both eyes in agony, with one hand on her forehead, she tried to understand what was happening. Screaming in pain, she opened her eyes, revealing a magical circle in her pupil. 

Rising quickly from his chair, Ryan pulled his cell phone from his pocket and took a picture of Lux's eye. Then he put the device away in his pocket and held her back firmly. "Go get a towel with water" he said to Nyx, who ran off towards the bathroom.

The angel was sweating profusely, with heavy breathing and a serene face. Her cheeks were red, with an intense heat being emitted from her forehead. 

"Angels can have a fever?" he thought, as he watched intently at that girl with long black hair.

When Lux had stabilized, Ryan and Nyx moved her to a temporary bed in the office. She remained asleep there for a few hours, while the two of them talked about what was going on.

"I found her in a book, are there angel hunters in your world?" 

Nyx nodded "There are several churches in the second world" she said as she crossed her arms and floated thoughtfully.

"The guardian of life gifted her to me, while the guardian of void gifted me you... Are you sure there is no strange magic circle inside you. Like Lux's."

The succubus just shrugged, saying she couldn't tell.

"I really shouldn't have trusted you to begin with" Ryan said, while raising one of his eyebrows at her. 

"That's cruel! You! You idiot!"

Ryan laughed at that, and walked over to the girl and ran his hand over her head, amidst the black horns sticking out of the top of her forehead. "It was a joke, but we need to look into this" he said, as he pulled his cell phone from his pocket.

"That magic circle looks familiar" Ryan said, as he looked at the photo along with Nyx.

"That star in the center is a mark of the empire of light" the succubus commented

"So is the golden sword" he said, looking towards the office.

"So they are the ones who sealed Lux" he commented.

"Do you have any idea what can be done?" Nyx replied, while looking deep into Ryan's eyes.

Opening his system, a notification popped up.

"If you two are watching, it would be a good time to explain to me what to do" he said, irritated.

"I still can't believe my system was just two unoccupied goddesses" Ryan said out loud as he watched that screen intently.
