Chapter 121 - Duet

Andrea snuggled comfortably in Lu Fang's chest after finishing the song. She felt so proud of her man that she could not resist but show her affection towards him.

The man leaned closer and whispered, "Babe, am I better than General Lei?"

She could not help but chuckle and hissed back, "I can't believe you did this just prove your better! Now, you've exposed your awesomeness and I have to share it to others."

She let go of the hold and gave him a frown suggesting she was apprehensive of other women gazing at him fondly.

"I just wanted the Xias to know why you chose to be with me rather than the General they admire, " he said while trying to keep his voice down considering that Lie Dong sat two chairs from where they stood.

"Okay, enough you two!" Li Wen came up to them and complained. "You both are making the single men and woman in this room feel bad."

"Oh, boy these two."

Gao Rou's comment did not escape Lu Jie that he probed, "Are they always like this?"

"Yes, Grandpa Lu. Sometimes, they just don't care about the people around them are."

"Well, I sure hope I live long enough to see great-grandchildren. Do you think they are working on that already?" asked Lu Jie.

Gao Rou almost choked at the question. He thought, 'How in the world does he expect me to tell on my brother?'

"Grandfather Lu, you best ask him yourself." His best bet was to pin it on Lu Fang, thus his suggestion.

Later on, Christina Lu also volunteered to give a song number together with Lu Wei. They both sang I Finally Found Someone. Apparently, Mrs. Lu was a big fan of Barbara Streisand.

It was Christina who had influenced Lu Fang to appreciate classic and soul music. As he was growing up, he heard his mother listen to her favorite piece and sang along with it. He had even attended music and voice lessons. Both mother and son would sometimes sing at home as a way of passing the time.

Two other families came forward with their best talent but, most of the audiences felt, it could not beat Li Wen and Xia Ting's dance as well as Lu Fang's singing. They wanted to have more.

Since the Xia couple were definitely out of the question, they began to chant the man's name.

"Lu Fang!"

"Lu Fang!"

Andrea gave a frown and hugged the man while objecting, "No! No! He's mine!"

Few of the guests laughed at her reaction. They could tell the couple was very loving with each other.

Lu Fang held her from behind and said, "It's okay, babe. It's just a song." He then directed his gaze to the crowd and said, "How about this, me and Andy will sing a duet!"

Crickets***

Even Andrea could not react to the man's proposal. A few seconds had gone by and still, there was no opinion from them.

"I think it's a good idea!" Christina said while turning to Lu Wei. They just sang a duet together and thought it would also be wonderful if the couple did the same.

"Hmmm… I'm not sure about that, babe. I'm not that good at singing. Haha!"

"Babe, it's fine! It's just for fun!"

"Yes, Andrea. It's just for fun. Sing a duet with my bro," Gao Rou encouraged and so did Lu Jie and Lu Wei.

The man began to search on his phone for a perfect piece to sing when Xia Yanmei spoke, "Well… I don't know about you guys, but I want to see Andy shoot arrows and knives!"

Li Wen, Xia Ting and a few of the Xia main family began to laugh and agreed to the notion.

"Yes, please, Andy. A bit further this time!"

"Andy, show us some action scenes!"

Lu Fang thought about it but since she was in a skirt, it was definitely out of the question. Singing would be much better.

Andrea pursed her lips and looked at the man. Seeing that he continued to encourage, she agreed, "Okay… okay! But I'm really not that good, babe."

"It's fine, babe. Here, I think this is good." It was You Are The Reason by Calumn Scott. "Do you know this song?"

"Know it? I love this song. I listened to the version with Leona Lewis a lot." Andrea began to smile, already delighted to give singing another try, "Let's do this!"

She then announced to the audience, "Okay, we will sing! Hope you like it."

Only the Lus gave a cheer of confidence and a few invited guests that attended for the first time. The rest had nothing to say.

Lu Fang had set his mind with the idea, that he missed the anxious reaction of those close to Andrea, including her beloved sister and niece.

"Mom, is aunt really going to sing?" Xia Mei said with a frown on her face.

Li Wen drank an entire glass of water before responding, "Haha! Yes, darling. Just let her be."

The music started to pay and the first part was to done by Lu Fang. As expected, he did it like a pro.

"There goes my heart beating

'Cause you are the reason

I'm losing my sleep

Please come back now"

Finally, it was Andrea's turn to sing, and all eyes were on her. Xia Ping, in particular, gulped at the anticipation.

"There goes my mind racing

And you are the reason

That I'm still breathing

I'm hopeless now"

She was giggling as she sang this and because it was meant to be sang at a slow pace, she winged it. However, when the chorus came, everything went haywire. More than just out of tune, her voice became penetrating. She sang loudly yet sometimes lose the voice completely.

Instead of singing, she came out laughing at herself. Lu Fang, who took a temporary pause also grinned at her and soon everyone else went howling.

Andrea was a horrible singer. The Xias knew it well as she tried singing in the past. Like each attempted it ended up to be laughing scene.

"Babe, you such a lousy singer," protested the man as he pulled her to his embrace. "Let me do the singing instead. Next, time we will prepare bows and arrows."

The man turned to the crowd and said, "I'm sorry everyone, I just discovered my wife is a bad singer, but I love her regardless so allow me to save her from this torment."

While tucked in his arms, Lu Fang played back the music and serenaded Andrea instead. Towards the end of the song, the man turned off the music. He then loosened his hold on her and leaned forward until both their foreheads met. The man sang in acoustic the last part of the lyrics.
